Sadly at 15 years and 7 months. I feel like i selfish since he looked "good" at that moment and i only talked to techs at emergency clinic. We had an extra week and a half from my "quality of life assessment" at my vets office and when i thought i would do this . His liver cancer had spread to lungs he had lost weight then. In the ten days he lost two more pounds. His breathing was frequent as before and wheezing at times and other times not. His gums went much paler. After three days of prednisone his breathing seemed improved and resting rate almost normal... But the next day his gums were getting paler and dementia started and he went blind but at vets even with cataracts he had some vision the week before. In last three days he is lucid sometimes and other moments getting lost in corners, couldnt find his water bowl in front of him, walked into a sandbox that should not have been on his route into house, after bath yesterday couldnt figure out how to get out of crate. I couldn't take that anymore and he wasn't eating. Yet he was happy and still knew me. He wasnt in crisis at that moment so of course i have doubts and feel selfish because his suffering was my suffering too and i couldnt take the dementia. fluffy well groomed hair covers so much. I thought his eyes were sunken. He could have gotten worse before i did it.... But today was firat day didnt like being groomed and it agitated hos breathing and it scared my oldest. During week i am alone with kids so cant take him in until late and very dark in dark industrial area for emergency vet. It isnt safe if he had a crisis in middle of night. emergency vet office said if they couldnt do catheter i couldnt be with him. So i don't want to wait too long. He was gone before the shot had even been injected all the way.

After kids in bed i will reread all the wonderful messages from my post ten days ago re euthanasia. It will help. Tomorrow i tell the kids.

I am so sorry for the heartbreaking decision you had to make. But try to hold onto the fact that you gave your precious Toby the most loving gift you could possibly give him...to let him go in peace when it was time.

Losing one of these wonderful little souls is truly losing a piece of ourselves...but in return the gift they leave behind for us is a life time of memories to cherish.

Sending you many hugs as you grieve the passing of your gentle boy. :hugs

So sorry for your loss. Thinking of you here today and eye's are tearing up. Sending lots of love to you and your family. xx

My heart goes out to you and your family at this incredibly difficult time.

It is the ultimate gift of love you gave to your beloved Toby, we know he now waits for you at rainbow bridge.

My hope and prayer to you is in time the fond memories Toby will overtake the sadness you now feel.

Please read the new Sheltie Nation Angels page for many wonderful and heartfelt poems that may help.
If you decide to post dear Toby on the Angels page I will most certainly light a candle for him.

Blessings to you and your family. Virtual hugs. :hugs
