(At a pet store; I'm looking for new toys while my Dad holds Lucien's leash)

Woman: Oh, what a cute Co-
Dad: (Interrupting her) It's not a Collie, it's a Sheltie.

This happened a few months ago, and to this day I'm still proud of my Dad haha. I had the same feeling when a random man at the park said "Oh look, a Sheltie!!" - I never had such an urge to hug a random person! :P
 
Good for your Dad!!!

Last year at the pet expo, I was there with my 2 shelties and another club member had her 10 month old Collie. We had a great time educating everyone who came by on the difference between Collies and Shelties! Our booth was for the So. Ca. Obedience Council.
 
People that I encounter seem to know that Greyson is a Sheltie, for the most part. Although I have gotten my fair share of "little lassie" comments.

Someone at the dog park today did ask if he was a mini australian shepard though.
 
Oh that must have been cool! I'd have loved to see that :D

About the little Lassie comments, I feel your pain. I have even gotten an angry woman asking what I had done to my poor Lassie, that she (HE, mind you!) didn't grow properly :rolleyes2:. She even asked if I did it on purpose! And let's not forget the various concerned comments about why my collie was a midget hahaha.

Awesome!!!I always get oh look Lassie with Sting and I say Lassie is a collie and has more money than my sheltie.:biggrin2:
 
There is a t-shirt for sale somewhere that says, "If Lassie had been a Sheltie, Timmy never would've fallen down the well, in the first place!" I love this and say it to anyone who thinks my Ember is a Collie!! :lol:

I wonder about people sometimes... I was walking Miko the other day and had this exchange with a woman on the sidewalk... I can't help but wonder if he heard me correctly, or if she just didn't give a rat's butt, or if she was just dense...

Her: Oh I love collies!!!!
Me: Oh he's not a collie, he's just a big sheltie.
Her: Yeah, we have 3 rough collies at home, but they're way bigger than him
Me: Yeah, shelties are quite a bit smaller than collies
Her: Yeah, he's small for a collie
Me: Okaaay... nice talking to you. Bye!

WTH?? :uhoh:
 
I actually don't mind the "Look, it's a little Lassie" comment. I dislike the "Mini- Sheltie (or collie) statement for the dog world has been besieged with Min-pins, Mini aussies and Mini everything's. I just correct them and say he's our runt sheltie. Most people are just ignorant of the most all dog breeds.
