We feed Wellness as well. No problems with loose stools from either dog, and Ginny is only a puppy. Ginny gets the puppy food and Sadie gets Super5Mix Lamb, Barley and Salmon.

For Sadie, this is the only food that she's done well on. Everything else caused her to have diarrhea and vomiting except hypoallergenic vet food. Her tummy was ok on that but her coat was dry, her skin itched and she was constipated. I don't think I'd give my girls anything else.
 
Koji as a puppy started out in Nature's Variety Instinct Chicken. Then I started rotating in all the other flavors of Instinct. Things were going good until the stores ran out (of Rabbit, which they were on). And because of that, I wasn't able to transition my dogs over. After 2 weeks of 2 dogs diarrhea, it was enough for me to switch to a more "stable" brand. This is also the same reason I refuse to use Orijen (although it's a good brand too).

As an older puppy, I had Koji eating TOTW (prairie). Not sure why, but after one bag gave him constant diarrhea I switched once again. (I know TOTW is a good brand, and I'm not sure what was going on with that one bag. We even returned the bag to get another, but that too triggered bouts of diarrhea. I gave up on TOTW).

I'm now serving EVO (chicken little bites). It's a brand that the store never runs out of. And they've lost weight on it (feeding same amount. I think I was giving them too much TOTW).

So, I obviously spoiled Koji rotten. lol. I think all the brands I listed above are good. The first two just didn't work out for various reasons. And I don't ever want to deal with what happened with Nature's Variety ever again (anyone else deal with that? I went to 5 stores and called another 10 in a 25 mile radius and couldn't find the rabbit. ugh! sorry, tangent and vent over).

My pups were originally on Purina Pro Plan at the recommendation of my breeder.

I supported this food for months on the forum here...heck, our parents fed our dogs dog chow, and they did well enough.

I finally found myself converted and transitioned to a high-protein, grain-free diet (first Orijen, then Horizon Legacy)

And then shortly after, the troubles erupted. Bacca became hypo-thyroid, and then started to exhibit signs of extreme liver disease. It tooks months of testing and diagnosis to decide to take him off the high-protein diet.

I'm now in process of transitioning him to a lower protein, grain-free diet - Adult Maintenance Now! In making this decision, I had to choose between TOTW, Eagle Pack, etc.

The jury is still out.

I guess the only advice I can give is the same advice my vet gave me....don't be suckered into "fad diets". I'm not saying that high protein is fad, it just did not work for Bacca. And I'm only thankful that we caught it early.

So, if I have any advice to give: Don't buy your food at the supermarket. Go a pet store, consult with the store clerks....most of them have pets too. And have good feedback. Don't rely too much on the websites, even our much favoured "dogfoodanalysis.com". Don't go to extreme in whatever you choose.

You and all the others are the reason I am loving this forum..I just love u guys:lol:..My Vet told me to slowly wean Megan off of Castor and Pollux onto either Science Diet or Royal Canin, ( I can hear the gasps now, ha ha). My animals have lived off of Science Diet for YEARS, VERY healthy and old ages and all. But I do like the ingredients better in the Royal Canin, so I will SLOWLY try and wean her onto that and see how it goes..:yes:
 
Fromm Family puppy food, which is pink and gold. In the analysis it was a 5 and it is not as expensive as the other premium brands I researched. It has duck, chicken, and turkey I believe.

I recently started mixing in wet food: have tried Castor & Pollux (thumb's up) and Merrick's is in our cupboard to try next.
 
I now feed raw diet supplemented sometimes with Orijen kibbles, never had troubles with un digested food since... Used to feed Puppy Science Diet and Toffee was continuously sick, could not digest the food. He had a total food intolerance that was making me worried sick... The vet was no help, sicne he had recommended the science diet :rolleyes2:
Thanks to this forum I found what works for us!

That's interesting Toffee!! I think it boild down to what each dog will eat and what's good and best for them. I have a 15 year old cat who has been on SD and an 11 year old cat on SD also. My beloved boy Tyler lived to be 11 1/2 on SD! But I really do think everyones suggestions have been great and very informative!:yes:

I'm not a fan of high protein foods either. When I was researching puppy food for Bailey, I remember reading that high protein can cause large growth spurts in puppies. Huge growth spurts are really bad for bigger dogs. It can cause joint problems. I prefer food with high quality ingredients and little or no grain. I don't mind if there's rice in the food, but definitely no corn.
