After 8 hrs of IV fluids, Hills l/d food and on lactulose for 1 day, Eevee is back to her perky self today. Thank goodness. The vet left the catheter in her front leg just incase we needed to do more IV fluids today.
Took her back to the vet this morning and they took the catheter out because she didn't need anymore fluids. Eevee is eating 1/2 can of Hills l/d with 15 ml of lactulose twice a day now. She loves the taste of lactulose and licking the entire bowel just get that last drop of it. Makes me wonder what it tastes like. She's running around in the back yard, barking and wagging her tail and following me around the house everywhere like she used to before the spay. The vet I saw today was a different colleague of my vet who is still on vacation. She recommended that we keep Eevee on Hills l/d diet and lactulose for at least a month then do the blood test again to see if anything has changed. Apparently Eevee is showing text book symptoms of livershunt though. I'm hoping all her enzyme levels will be back to normal after 2 weeks of treatment. Crossing fingers.
However, I still made an appointment to get a second opinion on Saturday so I'll keep you posted. But seriously, this Hills l/d look totally gross. I thought c/d was bad, but man, this is even worse. But I guess if this is what will take to keep Eevee healthy, then I have no choice. It has 4% protein. Does anyone know of any other companies that sell good quality kibbles for dogs with liver problems? I know Royal Canine has one.
Thank you all for your prayers. Eevee is still not out of the woods yet so please keep her in your prayers. Today, for a second there, I thought she had stopped breathing and I nearly had a heart attack!! I shook her to make sure she was still alive! She is really keeping me on my toes.
