i wish i had known..

I wish I had known how much more difficult raising a Sheltie pup is than any of the other 4 dogs I have had in my life. Janet
 
I wish I had known how much fun it is to have a Sheltie puppy, and that when one outgrows puppyhood you want another puppy. Before you know it, you have four! :eek2:
 
We have a saying when clients complain about the dumb things their Lab type dogs do- 'Dogs aren't paid to be deep thinkers. Dogs are paid to be good buddies.'
I often follow it up with, 'It's never a good thing, when attempting to deal with getting the dog to eat the proper diet, or with behavior issues, etc.,if the patient is a great deal more intelligent than the client.'

With that background, I would add, 'I wish i had known how much smarter than me my Sheltie was going to be.'

I wish I had known that shelties are not Border Collies and learn in a different way so trying to teach a sheltie obedience using techniques appropriate for Border Collie probably wouldn't work! (This was in the days before clicker training when the techniques were far more 'pushy/pully')

I really wish I had shown some of the great shelties of the past, the founding ancestors of the gorgeous dogs we share our lives with today. I also wish I had known those talented people who helped create our lovely breed. Hats off to them.
 
I wish I had known that our Shelties are constantly conspiring against us to make the world THEIR special place, and that I would be sucker enough to let them get away with it! So much for no dogs on bed and on couch! So much for I'll feed you when its convenenient for me!

I wish I would have known Lil' Lady was going to be a Royal Highness. With Lucky I did know how sweet he is, but I wish I would have known, he likes to be FIRST, especially going out the door. He runs through his girl like a bulldozier. How much fun and joy our two shelties bring us every day of the week. They sure try their best to out-smart us. Sheltie smile, sheltie stare, they melt our hearts.

I love the sign I have seen on cars: MY DOG IS SMARTER THEN YOUR HONOR STUDENT. True, shelties are really smart!

That no matter how well your Sheltie obeys you or stays by your side outside, it may shock you one day and chase a car. If I had known, my heart dog Miley would still be with me. HARD lesson learned (too late) :no:
 
How hard it is to say that final good bye. I would never change a thing because the unconditional love and loyalty that you receive can never be matched. But never in my wildest dreams did I ever think loosing our Hollie would be 100% more painful than we ever experienced in our lives. We of course now have Shelby who is always one step ahead of us keeping us on our toes! I always tell DH that our dogs love us like no one ever could.
 
I wish I had known that I would not be able to take a single step without two furry banshees dancing around my feet, spinning, running, barking, and hoping for food...or out...or maybe a movie...something interesting.
