I'm a little scared.....

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It's so good to be able to talk about this with people who "get it". I was telling my mother about it, and she really wasn't interested. And my weekend spouse was mostly annoyed that I wouldn't go up to the cottage this weekend (no way could I be stuck on the island with a sick pup!)

One thing, I guess what I forgot to mention is along with the swelling is a semi-hard lump under his jaw. But that has diminished in size a little as well.

I think this is what has the vet thinking its more than abscess or allergic reaction.

I did talk to my regular vet. Believe it or not, he told me to keep the appointment with the surgical specialist. If its an infection than the anti-biotics should do the trick. If it's something stuck in his jaw or abscessed tooth or any of the other possibilities, some kind of surgery would be required anyway and better to be done by the specialist.

He ate half his breakfast this morning, and all of his dinner tonight (1/2 moistened kibble, 1/2 soft "stew" - he's going to be very spoiled and very disappointed when he goes back to regular fare, when this is all over!). And he's playing a little more as well.

Barb--sounds like he is starting to feel better? That is very encouraging!

I am still thinking and praying for you and your family!

It sures sounds like an infection or abcess, Barb. I'm sure Bacca is miserable, but I'll take the reduction in swelling as good news.

This new information does sound promising - the swelling is going down, he's eating a little more and is more playful - all positive. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers!

Barb,
I am so sorry!!!! I have been real busy with school work and report cards and all so I have not been on much! You will all be in my prayers. I am so sorry, only a REAL dog lover would understand (you staying home with sicky this weekend). Hang in there! We are here for you! Keep you chin up and thoughts positive! Pray do St. Francis and so will I. Keely and I wish you the best! Let us know SOMETHING!

I'm glad everything sounds promising, Barb.

I don't get how people just don't understand. These are MORE than pets, they are family, but sadly I even know people with pets who just don't get it.

Hi Barb V, I hope that Bacca is doing well and that you're managing to get some sleep between all of the worrying. Looking forward to hearing how he's doing.

My family and I would also cancel a trip if one of our pups was sick like that. As far as we're concerned they're members of our family, who we'd also never leave behind sick.

Sorry Barb, because so much time spent with the new puppy I missed this as computer time is very limited. Barb my thoughts and prayers are with you and Bacca.

It's good to hear that Bacca is getting a little better. Every little bit helps. Still praying for both of you, even when I'm not around.

I'm haunting the forum, waiting for the diagnosis. Prayed really hard for Bacca this morning -- explained to God how much you need this little boy! :wink2:
