I'm a little scared.....

I'm glad to hear, Bacca is doing better, Barb. I'm guessing it's the meds messing with his tummy, making him throw up, but you are doing a GREAT job looking after him. (((Huggs)))

Ann's right -- I sure could be the antibiotics. I'll bet the ones you have are really strong if they're aiming to clear an abscess. Prayers heading your way!

I agree with Ann too. I would try giving him some yogurt or something else to calm his stomach with the medicine. Hope things continue to improve with Bacca. No one likes to see their babies sick!

He's on anti-inflammatories as well (Metacam) and the antibiotics are Clavamox.

He threw up again this morning - 14 hours after he last ate! And largely undigested! But he's peeing and pooping normally. And his energy (he was doing spins this morning, 20 minutes after he threw up!) and appetite are both back. I just don't get it.

I've been giving his meds mixed with Cheez Whiz - perhaps I'll mix with yoguort tonight instead.

Barb the yougurt is right.

When Kia was on the clavamox the vet told me to give her yougurt with live cultures to help keep her tummy from getting upset.:wink2:

Ok, Bacca got the premium Activa yoghourt tonight with his meds! I think he liked it even better than the Cheez Whiz!

I might just give him another dose of yoguort before bedtime!

He's becoming a spoiled pup. There was a day that his only feed was dry kibble, except when we were training! Now he's getting all kinds of exotic stuff, just by being sick! And of course, Indy has to have his share too!

I think I've created a couple of monsters!

You know Barb, mixing a little bit of can food with their dry food at every meal will make them think that they are getting something special every day. My girls love that they get a little bit of can food all the time now and I think it is helping their coats too!

Another suggestion to help restore the natural flora in his intestinal tract post antibiotics is to supplement with some acidophillus. It is found in yogurt, but sometimes especially after antibiotics, you need a bit more and faster. I am glad to hear that his energy is back.

I do this for my pups too, Barb. It is a great idea. I mix a little warm water too and they think it's gravy! The acidopholis is a good idea as well (you can buy that for people in the drugstore and add it to their food), or pick up a jar of canine probiotics. I give probiotics whenever mine are on antibiotics. You can find that online if you don't have a store around that carries it. The Metcam is great stuff for pain but combined with the Clavamox I bet that's what's doing his stomach in.

I'm so glad to hear he's improving though. And hey, what's wrong with a little spoiling?? Isn't that what Shelties are for? :biggrin2:
