Do what you're comfortable with. If you trust what your vet has to say then go with that.
My only comment about what the vet suggested is did he/she SAY Gypsy should try the WD diet for weight loss? I'm asking only because some times the reason they suggest vet foods isn't always made clear, maybe he/she likes it for a different reason.
I had very good results when Sadie was having digestive issues. (She too was tested for Cushings btw.) Shed had severe vomiting and diarrhea on and off for months and the vet food was the only thing that took away the symptoms
That being said, if the specialist did suggest that Gypsy's only problem is her weight, then I think that's just stupid.
