Is Blu-tack suitable for ear tipping?

Hi everyone,
While Woody's ear placement is great, his ears are a little light and have a tendency to fly up. To combat this we've been using just a tiny amount of blu-tack (the adhesive you use to stick posters to walls etc - btw its totally benign as well if accidentally ingested) on the tip of his ears to keep them folded over. I know its certainly not as good as moleskin or gluing, however that whole process is totally alien to me as a first sheltie owner and i would probably make a mess of it. Is blu-tack an okay way to go? Has anyone had any experience with this way of ear tipping?
 
I'm surprised you got Blu-Tack to stick to the ears! My dad used to work for that company here (now retired), and that was the first thing I tried! It kept falling off (good on walls tho!). :lol:

I ended up using a plaster that's cut down so as not to weigh the ears down too much on Romeo then surgical tape (I'd make a small roll as a weight and cut another small piece to stick the roll to the inside of the ear at the tip) on Juliet coz I have no clue where to get moleskin here and I found glue very messy.

My method is incredibly primitive though. I'm sure the others will have better alternatives!

Romeo, as a pup, with his plaster earrings will agree! I'm sure he thought he looked ridiculous.

Chewing gum seems to be the most common 'easy option' for tipping over here. I had it recommended by a couple of breeders. I did try the sump oil approach too but it was just too hard. Just make sure the gum is not the sugar free kind with Xylitol. Chew it a bit and stick it on when its a bit wet. Don't put too much on as you don't want to overtip - half a smartie or less in size.

And if you have another dog gum may not be an option - I had to give up on Tully as I used to come home from work to sopping wet ears from Deska trying to chew it off her.
