Is he on track to be a giant?

Miko is 19 weeks ... weighs just under 13lbs... and is 13.75 inches tall. According to the chart, that's on track for being oversize.

Has anyone had a puppy that was big early on and then their growth slowed down and they ended up staying in size?
 
At 18 weeks, Lexi was 10 lbs and 13.5".

At 22 weeks, she was 11 lbs and 14".

She's now (at 13 months old) 15 lbs and 15.75".

So, it's possible that Miko won't be huge. Lexi has always been on the higher end of the chart, and really just didn't get much taller--just longer. She's now just long and lean.
 
Had the same here with Jasper.He was always less weight,and much shorter. At he moment he is right at 20#,and is 15-1/2" tall.

His weight for us is a concern,and we are feeding him a bit more,as he feels very thin.He is long & very lean,to lean for my liking compare to Trapp that is 21#.

Jasper's ribs are to easily felt for my liking.When I rub Trapp to feel ribs,but not as prominant as Jasper.

I know at his last bath,is when I really was concerned.As he looked like a skeleton,unlike Trapp when he is wet.
 
When Sadie was a pup she was always right on the line or slightly above. Sadie is now over sized (17.5-18").

Ginny was always close to being undersized according to the chart, but ended up being exactly 14".
 
Man, this sheltie size thing is crazy!! :eek2: I can't say it really matters all that much to me... I don't plan on showing him or breeding him. One of the things that drew me to shelties in the 1st place was their size... perfect for our home and lifestyle... I had no idea I could end up with a dog that might be slightly smaller than a collie!!! LOL
 
Sca the Border Sheltie say that is just more to love :biggrin2: Of course carrying his 31lb butt is not on the fun list :no: Not really sure what is size/weigh was since he dislikes the tape measure. He is somewhere around 18" now and that makes him the largest usually when around Shelties or the smallest around BCs

Yeah, it looks like he's going to be on the big size, but hopefully not that huge. Sadie was a little below where Miko was, if I remember correctly, so its possible he won't be too much bigger than her.

Especially since Collies seem to be getting smaller and smaller. My 22" Collie bitch looked like a moose in the ring, and she on the bottom side of the "recommended" size of 22-24 inches.

No kidding! Marlowe is 31 lbs (at 10 months); he won't really stand still to be measured but he is in the ballpark of 19". At 20 weeks, he was 19 lbs so Miko may end up smaller than him.

It's a great size, though--he plays well with both small and large dogs.
 
I didn't measure Smudge for the first six months or so. He didn't start to really shoot up though until after 10 months, shortly after Fluffy came home. He is now a splendid 17 and 1/4 inches.

My Mom declares Gizmo, our first sheltie, was bigger than Smudge, but I don't remember him being that big. :uhoh:

The Fluff woman was around 14 inches for a long time and then settled in at about 16 inches.

Edit:
Smudge is around 26 pounds, but he is waaaaay too skinny. The vet wants him at no less than 30. Fluffy is around 20.
