Itching Scratching Biting

Ruckus is itching! In the summer and spring he usually gets an odd rash but now he is itching and I do not see anything! There are no bumps, fleas, dry skin, or even redness. When we go walking he has to stop about 4 times to scratch! I use hypoallergenic everything (I have very sensitive skin) and I do not spray perfume on him or anything. his skin is not scaly, thick or anything out of the ordinary.

Any idea why he is so itchy?

I bet ruckus has allergies. I had a dog when I was a lot younger:uhoh: that had allergies . he use to scratch himself raw. when we brought him to the vet they tested him and then he was placed on a small dose of prednisone. worth checking out.:yes:
 
yeah my current dog has some serious allergy problems. Our vet makes us give her half a benedryl every couple of days. Poor baby. She used to scratch and scratch and nothing was there...
 
My parent's sheltie has bad allergies too during the fall and spring. She gets bumps on nose and chews her paws to bits. Vet has us giving her a benadryl a day. Seems to help.
 
My sheltie Dylan is allergic to everything including my three cats! When he was about 8 months old we found him rubbing his eyes on puppy gate until the skin was red and crying at the same time. We had him tested for allergies and found out he is allergic to all kinds of grass, trees, dust mites, cats.........
We tried everything and after almost two years his allergies finally under control. He gets a once a month allergy shots, 2 benadryls a day, some homeophedic medicines once a day. Dylans still rubbs his eyes on the grass, but never too much to get it red. We don't know which method is working for him. All we know is it is working and we are not taking any chance!
 
We have a dog in rescue that has severe allergies. He is allergic to flea bites, has issues with grain and is low thyroid.

Out of all of the foods we've tried he is doing best on California Natural Herring and sweet potato. I give him one teaspoon of Benedry liquid twice a day for the itching and it does seem to help some. Prednizone is a good way to relieve the itching but it can get expensive after a while, so can the Benedryl. The best course of action for us with the rescues is to discover what they are allergic to and remove it from their diet or remove them from that environment if possible. We're still waiting for Pongo's results so we know what course of action to take. One thing is for sure he was allowed to suffer way too long before allowing someone to get him the help he needed.

Omg, that poor poor baby! I can't believe how long people will let a dog go before they get help or in your case turn him over to get help. I hope Pongo is doing better.

Marlie started really itching a few weeks ago but I think I have figured out what her problem was. I started feeding her a spoonful of yogurt with her food. I stopped the yogurt and the itching has stopped. Glad that wasn't hard for me to figure out. It was the only thing that had changed over the last month.

I am also having Itching problems with my new rescue Dylan. I've had him since april and he came shaved to the skin because of neglect. His skin looks good now but he's itching terrible and now has started biting and is causing redness. I feed him Innova and very little treats so I don't think it's the food. I'm making an apt at the vets this week to get him ck'd out. I want to give him some bennedryl but not sure how much or if the vet needs to tell me to. I know the itching is driving him crazy. Any advice?
