My 10 year old Jack had to have his spleen and gallbladder removed this summer. He then was put on medication for an infection in his liver. After we conquered that battle, the vet discovered through a blood test that he was leaking protein. It is not his kidneys, parasites, or pancreas. A ultrasound showed fluid, which was sent away and was determined to be made of protein that is leaking. The next step is an endoscopy, which is happening on Wednesday. I have researched on the internet and it seems that this is a necessary step in finding the correct treatment to help him. I have also discussed it with my vet and 2 internal surgeons who also thought that the endoscopy should be the next step. My mom has asked me to ask other Sheltie parents their opinion. The money is not the issue, we would give any amount to get him better, we just don't want to continue putting him through so much. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jack, Bailey, Molly, and Danny's mom

I am sorry I do not have any suggestions or advice, but I will keep you, Jack and your family in my prayers.

I'm sure you will hear from others here on the Sheltie Forum.

Please update us on your Jack when you can. Thank you.

Oh gosh...I am so sorry to hear of Jack's illness. I can't help you but want you to to know I will keep Jack in my thoughts. There others here who are probably knowledgable of this type of problem.

It is so hard when a little dog has multiple issues and I fully understand your concern about how much to do. The one good thing about an endoscopy is that it is no where near as invasive as surgery. Obviously it would require that Jack be put under for the procedure and I assume your vet would be planning to take small samples of tissue to biopsy. Our Timmy had an endoscopy a year ago when he was having serious stomach issues and we couldn't figure out why. He was back home the same day, on antibiotics for 10 days afterward and showed no real sign of discomfort from the procedure.

I think every case is individual and you are the only ones who know Jack well enough to decide what is fair for him. I am so sorry you are going through this. Whatever you decide my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I am so sorry your little Jack has to go through all of this. It is never easy to watch our baby's suffer especially the 4 legged variety because they really don't have a voice to tell us their problems. I am also sorry I can offer no help, please keep us posted on Jacks progress. I will keep your little Jack and your family in my thoughts and prayers. :fl :hugs

Thank you to all who replied with prayers and good wishes. We are on day #2 of no food due to the endoscopy tomorrow. Jack is not taking it so well....he loves his food!

Jack Update

Endoscopy went well. Biopsy should be back on Monday or Tuesday which will determine the treatment he will need. Your support meant so much...thank you!

So glad the endoscopy went well and now hopefully you will get a dx that lets you know how to help Jack feel better. Thanks for letting us know and fingers crossed for good news from the biopsies.
