Hi! I have a one year old sheltie named Sig :) We got him when he was only a couple months old... however he is the most jealous little dog I have ever seen! Me and my husband can't show any affection for each other without him jumping up and running over, he whines when we kiss and barks when we (you know :wink2:) I get on to him for barking but it never helps.. he has a two second rebound lol I cant tell if he is truely jealous or just thinks my husband is hurting me (he is super protective). Any ideas on what to do?

My little boy use to do this when he was a puppy.

What we did was (1) ignore him and (2) correct him with a loud 'eh!' sound or a 'no' without breaking our hug if he jumped on us.

We praised him when he would watch us and do nothing or before he reacted.

It took about 2 weeks before it stopped.

LOL!! Miko also jumps up and tries to get between SO and me when we're hugging or kissing. I think it's just that he's a cuddler and wants to be in the middle of the "pack hug".

As far as the barking during ... uuuhhhm... well you know... I have no advice for you there. Miko sleeps in a crate in our room, but he just stays quiet... minding his own business :wink2: Perhaps chanting to himself... "go to your happy place... go to your happy place"

My boys aren't jealous of people, but they sure are jealous of each other. Anytime I pet or hug or let one of the pups snuggle on the couch or bed, the other one wants to get into the action.

Bacca's approach is to bully his way in. He'll just push Indy aside or sit on top of him.

Indy is no more subtle....but he wiggles his way into whatever "hole" he can find.

As for stopping it....usually I just give them both the cold shoulder.....but I guess that's not going to help you and hubby!:lol:

Haha, yea I have tried ignoring him... but then he becomes frantic and and tries to jump in the middle of us lol... It doesn't bother me as much but it really annoys my husband (they got some kind of alfa thing going on) lol

Is your dog crate trained? I've found that when my dogs get anxious about something that putting them in their crate seems to calm them down.

Also, they can't jump up and ruin the moment for my husband and I!

Sounds like an episode of Victoria Stillwell I watched some time ago. What she did was to ignore the pup,and also place it on the floor, ignoring it.
When the good behavior shows, then the dog was treated.

with 4 dogs here,we see a bit of pushing, shoving as Barb described, but the behavior is not a problem really. If it was,I would crate them, ignore the issue.

we had this same problem when our last dog, a shih tzu/malti poo, was a puppy.. he howled and barked.. very distracting to say the least. We just ignored him and he finally stopped.
