Piper is a paw puller too, especially his back paws...so touchy about them!

Brody is as well with the pads of his back feet. When I trim the hair from the bottom of the foot, them he will sometimes pull his paw out of my hand. I assumed his feet were ticklish, just like mine are.

I've never used a dremel...how long does it take on each nail? How likely is it that you could snare the hair?

My wife thinks the Dremel is voodoo magic and is reluctant. Is there no clipper person out here? For me, as a back up if the Dremel doesn't work?

If you have it on high, a few secs. per nail, if you keep on top of it.
I've snared the hair before, the dremel stops. Getting the hair out is the pain. A little paying attention makes sure that doesn't happen, or rubber band or drape off the area.
I prefer the scissor type of nail trimmer, but nicking the quick (even if I get the bleeding stopped right away with Kwik Stop) makes me feel sooooo bad. I can't stand it when I hurt them, or any dog I've worked on over the years...

Takes me less that 5 minutes to do all nails. I've snagged the fur a couple times (more likely with the front) so I'm just very careful and will stop to fix the fur. You could use a small towel to cover.

Start SLOW... Dremel off, on the floor or wherever you'd like to do grooming. I do it in our family room because it's carpeted and comfy for both of us. First time it could be just having the dremel near, or if Remy is calm enough, just touching the Dremel, off, to each paw - treat. If nervous just do one. End of lesson 1. Do it again, and again, and again. I left the Dremel in our family room a few days, just sitting there so he could check it out. Then one day I started it - end of lesson - treat! Eventually I got to touch a paw with them Dremel on and so on....

1) go SLOW
2) give LOTS of treats
3) always make it a happy, exciting time
4) always end on a positive, happy, praise, treats

I have trimmers, but hate them. No better way to scare a dog off from nail trims than to hit a quick.

3 out of 4 are on their sides. none particularly cooperate with being on their backs for grooming. Destin likes to be snuggled in your lap when you do everything to him...........
