keeping track of "meds"

Well, some people use daily pill dispensers to remind them when to feed meds. I suppose some people align themselves to after meal timelines.

I have a a fool proof method of making sure that Bacca gets his meds twice per day.

Well, its evolved that Bacca will only take his meds in a pill pocket. So in Indy's mind, that's a treat, so if Baccca gets a treat, he should have one too.

I was just about to go to bed, then Indy started to circle and bark and would not settle. He wanted his bedtime treat (btw....it's a tiny bit of freeze dried liver, but he seems ok with that)

That's when I realized that I forgot Bacca's meds. So they both got their "treats" and now we are settled for bed. Night, night!
 
He he...we have a similar thing here. Every night Sally gets thyroid rx between 8 and 9 o'clock with some turkey jerky and she does all her tricks and we practice new ones.( It really only takes a few minutes.) Well, if I am involved with something and loose track of time Sally will come find me and stare or tap me me on the arm and stare at me. Usually the cat is in on the reminding too because she gets some jerky when she does her "tricks". This is how I remember the pm medicine giving. :cool:

And according to the doc, I'm supposed to eat something at 9PM. So we determined that I could have an ice cream drumstick. So Max and Casey get a little doggie treat and Rascal gets HIS "ice cream". What that actually means is....Rascal gets the few nuts that fall off into the drumstick package. But since hubby and I both eat one, he gets his "ice cream" twice.

We tried giving him some vanilla ice cream once when we accidentally ran out of drumsticks. He ate it. But it wasn't HIS ice cream. lol

He'll remind me if I'm more than 10 min late with it too!!
 
I keep a journal to make sure I know what time Tinsel got his meds and that it was done. I'd love to say that he gets it at the exact same time every day but life does get in the way and often it is out by an hour. I also put in what time he eats as with the Thyroxine it's important and it also makes sure that hubby doesn't give him meds too. Tin does know when his hour wait is up from taking his pill. He will make his presence known until I look at the clock and realize that, yes, it has been an hour and breakfast is coming. He hasn't figured out the pill 3 hours after dinner but he knows that 1 hour after that one he gets another treat. Clever little Tin Man.

I have to admit I've not been following the rule at breakfast. The boys gets fed and then Bacca gets his meds about 1 hour later. I know it should be longer.

And the reason why Indy barked at me was because I was spacing out the evening meds to be at leat 3 hours after eating....but I was falling asleep!
 
If you got a smartphone, you can use a reminder app or google calendar to remind you every day you need to give medications.
 
My hubby uses his smart phone to remind him to take all of his meds and to do site changes for his pump. I constantly am hearing it go "uh oh" for something however it does remind him to take whichever med for that time of day. Trust me when I tell you there is a lot of meds going into that man's body. With Tin, I give him his meds right after I ex him in the morning, write it in the journal and then wait for him to let me know the hour is up - he's good at it. He usually gets his thyroxine about 7am, breakfast at 8, dinner at 4 and thyroxine at 7 - usually but sometimes I sleep in a bit or I have to go to dinner and have to change things around. I am still trying to get him to take his pill from the girl that helps with the horses but he refuses to take it from her. From Dave and I he takes it like a treat - yeah!
I like to use a journal so that I can note any changes in dosage, activity level etc so that when I go to the vet I can show them specifically when I started to notice anything. I keep one for the horses, cats and other dogs as well. Goes back to clinic work where all observations and history is important to diagnosis and treatment.

The problem with that is when you're not at home when your reminder goes off... and then you forget to take it when you get home.

When Missy had to take meds twice a day, I just gave it at meal times and that was easy to remember.
