Late trial post--videos!

Thought I would post a couple videos from our last trial. It was about a week after our big move, and I think the dogs were definitely out of practice! But, they had a good time and so did we!

I only uploaded a couple videos (some of them were UGLY..like when I forgot the course!), so here are some highlights:

Lexi Starters Jumpers: Q
Very proud of this run. Honestly, running Lexi is incredibly difficult, especially in jumpers. She is so fast that getting directions out fast enough is really hard for me. I'm still learning.

Lexi Steeplechase: NQ
This was honestly one of Lexi's best runs. Yes, she has weave issues (we're working on them now) and she drops the double, but she listened really well. She even had a couple nice tight turns. Because of the time she spent at the weaves, and the 5 second time fault awarded because of her dropped bar, she didn't Q. But she was only 1 second slower than Bentley even with her weave entries.

Bentley Steeplechase: Q
I was happy that Bentley Qd in this run. I thought I would add it here so you could compare Bentley and Lexi on the same course. As I said, Bentley was only 1 second faster than Lexi, and he ran totally clean. He did eventually win $22 in Steeplechase finals :smile2:

The outcome of the weekend was great...As far as titles, Lexi received her final Starters Standard Q so she got her Agility Dog (AD) title and is now able to move up to Advanced. I'm very proud of her...but nervous! She definitely needs some work before we enter another trial.
 
I just watched your videos - great runs! Job very well done. Lexi is fast! What height does she jump?
I think you did very well with directionals. I have to teach them to Maia. If we knew them, I think it would have saved us this weekend on our very first AAC Starters Jumpers course. Did you teach her to spin first in both directions to teach left and right?
I also admire the distance you can work away from her - I have to 'babysit' Maia still so I have to run as fast as I can.

Both Lexi and Bentley jump 16". They are both around 15.5".

And no, I didn't teach Lexi directionals using spins. I did that with Bentley and didn't think it ever translated. I taught them to Lexi on the flat when she was a puppy. We started just using jump standards and working turns.

I'm lucky I can work at a distance from her because I can never keep up!
 
Late Video's

Lexi for sure is a speed demon!!Her jumpers run was nice with the 14 or so jumps and a nice time.I would like to see her do an AKC JWW with 20 obstacles.One of Sting's Open JWW run was 20 and change and it had 20 obstacles.I taught directionals to Shadow with the spins first and then with jumps.Same with Sting also.

Yes--you're right. Sometimes :)

In the venue in which I compete (USDAA), there are 3 levels: Starters, Advanced and Masters.

For each game, individually, you need 3 Qs to move up to the next level. So for instance, in Starters Gamblers you need 3Qs before you move to Advanced.

But, there is also Standard, which is where all the obstacles are used (including the table). If you get 3Qs in Starters Standard, for instance, you can move up to Advanced Standard. If you ALSO have 1 Q in every other game (Gamblers, Snooker, Jumpers, and Pairs) then you can move up to Advanced for ALL games. Does that make sense?

A Q varies for each venue, but in USDAA the dog has to run clean in order to Q. So if the dog knocks a bar, or gets any kind of fault, you can't Q.

The only time this is different is in Steeplechase and Pairs. (Steeplechase is one of the videos I shared). In Steeplechase, your dog can knock bars, or miss weave entries and incur any kind of fault, and still Q. Each fault is a 5 second time fault. So if my dog knocks a bar, but the rest is clean, you take her time, and add 5 seconds. Hope that makes sense!

I finally had a chance to sit down and watch the videos. Very nice runs for both dogs. Bentley has some very nice tight turns.

I need to try to convince you to come to Pittsburgh for my club's USDAA trial in September. :wink2:

Is it indoors or outside? We need a lot more work on rubber matting before we're even close to ready to trial on it. Our dogs are still very confused! :lol:
