My dad is a musician, and Aztec is always happy to sing/howl along with the saxaphone, clarinet, and harmonica. He really likes it...he is always waiting for dad to open the case, and put the instrument together. Aztec does not sing with any music I put on the stereo, and doesn't react to the guitar, or the piano. I think the howling has become a daily routine more than anything else.

3 AM howl
Gavin seems to howl in the middle of the night when a noise startles him awake.
At 3AM, it isn't very cute. At 3AM by the side of my bed is really not very cute. And he rarely howls during more acceptable hours; the park is all about barking.
But I love my furball anyway

But I love my furball anyway Our 4 month old sheltie liked to howl at first, but we are busy training him "quiet" because of a shrill bark. He hasn't howled for a while, and is getting better about not barking so much. That shrill bark can cause me a migraine and even my husband says he gets a headache from it. Well worth having the sheltie though.

Romeo doesn't howl. But I do! I get the cutest expression from him and a slightly frantic "must get to mum now" walk.

My male does the "calling the pack" howl when he cannot get to me, when I go out with my other dog or am outside without him. When he sings he makes a 'pirate' sort of noise "arh arh rah rah rah".

No howlers here ever since Annie Laurie was spayed. But could she croon!!! "OOOOOOOOhhhhh I'm heeeeereeee! I need loooooooove."
"OOOOOOOOhhhhh I'm heeeeereeee! I need loooooooove." I had an Annie Laurie, too, but she was a collie and it was years ago when I was a kid. My first sheltie was Sammie Sosa and now we have Indigo (bi-blue) Phog (for Phog Allen - Kansas Basketball). Indigo is the quietest sheltie that I have ever met. I really miss Sammie's bark and howl. Even though the bark was high pitched, it was really his expression of love of life! I will always miss him.

If i leave Bandit in the cage all night, he will howl in a high voice, like almost like he's being hurt. and likes to start howling at 6am in the morning
