Well, good news to report!

Liam was so much better in his second class! He was still overwhelmed but the trainers broke us up into two groups when we first began which helped him. We worked on the tunnel. At first, he was very reluctant to go through it. The second and third times were much better.

I have been using a choke training collar at home and he does fine with it. However, the trainer had me change to a buckle collar when she saw he was resisting the leash on the heel. I noticed it too! We did the heel as a small group. When I went out first with him he began to lag. On the second and third time, I allowed the dogs on either side of me to go out first and then Liam was much better when the dogs we a few steps in front of us!

At the recall again, he is always resistant at first! Kinda hurts my feelings... you would think as attached as he is to me he would run to me! Anyway, again he was better on the 2nd and 3rd run!

Even the trainer came up to me and said how much better he was since last week! That made me happy!

I even went to Boston Market to get turkey as a high-value treat. Sometimes he was just too stressed to take it! Oh well, we did better and hopefully, the positive progress will continue! I will be so glad when he gets his final shot so I can get him out more! I know that will help!

The trainers gathered us together at the end of the session to explain that the dog flu is going around and to consider having our dogs vaccinated for it. Even if it meant waiting on the rabies vaccine. Liam has his final shots scheduled for Wednesday... will discuss with the vet.

You will likely find each class gets a little better! So glad you are going, and that your Liam is going to relax a little more each time! So proud of YOU!!!

Thanks a BUNCH for the vote of moral support! I was really worried last week!
He was so cute last night... when we were watching the instructor Liam would sit in the middle of my two legs and watch.
Any time he was asked to do a sit by my side he had to be touching me.

Once I can get him out more I bet he will surprise me!

I've been following Liam's progress, and it sounds like you're doing so well! Hang in there and keep working!!

Yay, progress! Try not to dwell on any setbacks and realize it's a process, sometimes two steps forward and one step back! Liam is one smart cookie and he'll figure it out. My nosework teacher has turned us on to Happy Howie's for treats - it comes in a big roll and you can cut it up into treats which is more economical than buying small treats in a bag from a store. It comes in different flavors and the best part is it's not greasy! I bought a 2 lb roll for $8 from her and it has lasted for weeks. My pups think it's a very high value treat!

Fantastic news Gloria that Liam did so well! You definitely need a VERY high value reward at obedience when they're young, I remember with Piper I used kubassa (I didn't do all the cookie and treat baking then like I do now lol. I also make jerky for the dogs (ground chicken or turkey is best...lean meat.) I use a jerky gun (looks sorta like a caulking gun) and make ribbons of meat onto a cookie sheet. I sometimes add garlic powder or cheese...whatever will up the smell, then I bake it for about 10 minutes or so (until it's cooked but not hard...so it can be torn into small pieces). I try not to use too much processed food that can mess with their wee tummies. I love my jerky gun for making treats for the dogs...sometimes I will dehydrate the meat after its cooked. I store it in the freezer and take pieces out as I need them.
