Limited Registration

It is extremely common, and in fact, the good breeders strictly use it because they do not want you to reproduce puppies using their name (kennel name). It just strictly means the pup is neutered/spayed and if for some reason they say you don't have to but still limited (happened to my brother) then you will never be able to register a litter of puppies from that dog if it does get pregnant. It honestly does not hurt anything else, other than means they cannot breed. Limited dogs are everywhere.

Is it hard to find full registered puppies? $700 to $500 is alot to spend for something you don't have exactly full rights on.

What do you need full registration for? Unless you are planning to breed to better the breed and are planning to show conformation or performance you dont need to be breeding. I wouldnt say finding full reg is hard to find but that most of the dogs available on full reg with no questions asked arent people you want to be dealing with and the dogs arent quality enough to bother breeding. A nice show prospect with breeding rights that you have to show will run more than 5-700.

Just in case I ever decided too. I mainly want to do agility. I grew up with all kinds of herding/working dogs, Border Collies are my by far favorite breed and the registries are alot different. Some registries the parents HAVE to do either work/agility/show for the puppies to be registered. So that's why I ask. It's a whole different world I guess. Are their any registries in the US that aren't tied to the AKC. Like I said this is a whole different world from the dogs I've always had. So I have lots of questions since it's totally different than a BC.

$700 is cheap for a pet price, atleast up here. And that is sold on limited registration...Show price is usually $2000+

NO reputable breeder will sell any dog to someone they do not know with full registration. It just doesnt make sense for the sake of the dog and the breeders lines that they have put soo much time and effort into.

If its going to be a pet it does not make one lick of a difference if its full or limited reg.

On that level of thinking, I think I'd just get a FREE non-registered puppy. :)

But if you want to compete in AKC events, you would have to pay for AKC registration as a PAL/ILP, or whatever it's called.

A limited registration just keeps you from showing in conformation and breeding your dog. Well, you can breed it.. but it's offspring won't be eligible for registration except for the PAL/ILP. I kinda see it as a way of protecting the breeders. IDK, I didn't think it was a big deal. I wasn't looking for a dog to breed; planned on getting her spayed regardless. I didn't even know about limited registration until I got the forms, and I was like.. "well.. that makes sense!"

Generally speaking those "free" puppies are not "free" they end up costing you in vet bills and with other issues. And beware of anyone giving away "free" puppies as they really have no interest in the dogs well being, otherwise they would require atleast a $400 fee, funny when people pay for things they tend to look at them less as throw aways and more like an investment....also they wouldnt offer them being free as people take them to be dog bait...

Well wouldn't it be better for some of these "free" dogs to go to good homes instead? Just because they aren't registered doesn't mean they don't deserve a good home.
