limping back leg after wake up

It's roy's first winter and before i never want to put him in shoes because i think he can handle it. But then he limp on the walk and cry, and I realize salt caught in between his paws and make him uncomfortable, that's why i have to put shoes on him.

I will keep monitor him for a bit longer, if the limp happened again i will for sure bring him to the vet.

Has he ever held the leg up for a few seconds then kept walking like nothing is wrong?

My girl did this and she was less than a year old and diagnosed with luxating patella, which is a slipping knee cap. After seeing 3 vets, we were advised to have the surgery done as soon as possible. My girl would limp first thing in the morning and also just at random times during the day.

I think you need to get your boy checked at the vet straight away. If he something like my girl had, the sooner its dealt with the better the prognosis.

Good luck and keep us posted. I certainly hope he doesn't have to go through what my girl has, its not a lot of fun for them or us.

It may not be salt caught in his tows but snowballs. When I walk the dogs after fresh snow or sometimes just send them outside to play, they will come in and limp. Snowballs.

I keep a towel handy at the door to wipe the snow from their feet when they come in. If I miss any, it will be melted puddles soon enough.

I would check your pups paws though for ice welts and dry pads. If the snow is crusty, it might cause small abrasions on their paws. I think that's what I have going on with Indy. He is such a crazy man that he pelts back and forth in front of the fence, creating his own little ice patch, chasing other dogs walking by.

Yes, Toffee always has problems here in Halifax winter at first, because the city uses salt like there is no tomorrow, lol
But after a couple of walks the salt doesn't bother him anymore at all.
