Max is 3 years old. He limps, on and off. He'll lift one of his back legs and walk on just 3 legs. He's been examined by vet, and xrays have been taken. Still nothing shows up. Has anyone had this problem? could this be arthritis at only 3 years old? This is my first post. New to this site. Thanks for any help you can be.

Has Max been tested for Lyme? My Barkley exhibited the same symptom (limping) at 6 months old and was xrayed and tested too. We finally found out he had Lyme disease. He's now four and has relapses once or twice a year. When I see the limp coming on, I start him on doxycyclene.
Sometimes the Lyme test does show up negative -- Barkley's did several times, even though his Lyme symtoms were classic -- you might ask your vet about putting him on a round of doxycyclene as a precaution.

I say check him for Lyme as well.
If it's not lyme, you could try giving him a glucosamine supplement. My rescued sheltie will also limp from time to time on his back leg. I've found that giving him a once daily glucosamine supplement has done wonders. He hardly limps at all now, and if he does, it is only for a short time.

If you rule out lyme, could be degenerative joint. My first furry, Klee, had it from a very young age and the vet was able to tell by feeling her elbow joint on her front leg, then backing up what he felt w/ an xray. She was on meds on and off as needed and took a glucosamine/condroitin supplement. Hope you figure it out and Max is feeling better real soon!
