Line brushing?

Do you guys line brush your dogs? I know that show dogs really should have it done at least a couple of times a month (right?)
But what about pets? I usually line brush Ruckus once a month, but I honestly hate it and I dont really see how it does any better than running a slicker brush over him. He has thin fur and next to very little undercoat.
 
I line brush with the Furminator about once a month or whenever I see the undercoat starting to build up. I like to keep the undercoat quite thin on my guys, gives them the nice sleek athletic look, shows off their curves. :lol:

Gio has very thin hair (though that may all change now that he has been diagnosed and put on treatment for hypothyroidism!), so he doesn't need it as often. Romeo has very thick undercoat, so his is more of a chore to take care of.

Other than smoothing things over, I don't find that the slicker does anything to the undercoat. I've heard some people say that they can strip a dog with a slicker, but apparently I'm doing something wrong as I can't get it to take out much of the undercoat at all. Have much more success with the Furminator or a fine toothed metal comb.
 
Line brushing is where you start at the tail of the dog, part the hair and brush from root to tip, then part down another thin layer of hair and repeat. Work from the tail to the head. Helps keep the undercoat under control!
 
I line brush after every bath to ensure that I am removing all loose undercoat and to make sure that the dog is completely dry to the skin. It's not that hard to do if you have a cooperative dog. Mine usually sleep through most of the brushing. It's only when they have to stand so i can do the back and the skirts that they object some...
 
I do line brush. probably not as much as I should, but at least during peak shedding season I do. other than that I usually just use a comb and a shedding rake.
 
Ruckus sleeps through it just fine, but its just so time consuming! I wouldnt mind doing it at all if it was to keep my show dog in top coat condition.
 
I confess!!

I very seldom line brush. When my Jewel needed more intense grooming then it was off to a pro !! :biggrin2: It hurts my back too much if I have to do that much intense brushing. I have a rotated spine with numerous, disc out of wack.:eek2: I am trying to keep up with Kias coat so far so good. Her coat has given me no problems at all. Yet !!:uhoh:
 
I just use my slicker brush and brush him in long strokes all over :X...is that bad? Should I be line brushing him? I brush him every 2-3 days ...

And when they're shedding.
