Line brushing?

I do a "quarter" line brush every time I brush Bacca (a couple of times per week). I find that if I try to do the whole thing, he gets bored and antsy and so do I! It just takes too long.

So I split it up to make it go faster. I suppose I can get away with it because he's only just starting to get his adult coat.

Bacca actually lay down quiet for me for a full 20 minutes this weekend so I could groom him. He even let be trim all his feet, and the pads underneath! Now that's progress!

I am thinking about getting a grooming table though. Whenever I try to groom him near his face, or front paws, he thinks the brush is a great chew toy

It's not "bad" to just use the slicker. It all depends on the type of coat that your Sheltie has. A thin coat with sparse undercoat would be fine with just a slicker. But if there is a thick undercoat, then you might see some good results with line brushing.
 
What implement do you all use to line brush? I've tried using a wide tooth comb but it pulls and seems uncomfortable for the dogs. I'm not crazy about the Furminator and am wondering if I should just line brush with my shedding rake. Thoughts? :confused2:
 
I use a greyhound comb and a shedding rake. I usualy go over their coat with the shedding rake first to make sure the bulk of the undercoat and any mats are out. then I go through with the comb.
I have a question. I was told by Belle's breeder not to use a slicker on any part of an adult sheltie, but the ear area. she said slickers tend to burn and break the coat. so is that just a show dog thing or does it really hurt the coat. I know in the Illustrated Guide TO Sheltie Grooming they dont use the slicker much. just curious
 
I use a pin brush. It has really flexible bristles on it, and there are no ball on the end. When I was kennel help at a show collie kennel that is what we used, so i use it on Ruckus too.
I spray each line gently with "The Stuff" spray
 
I use a rounded end pin brush for line brushing. I'm really a "sloppy line" groomer. As long as I get the dead hair out without hurting the girls, I'm happy. Layla doesn't mat, and neither does Annie, but Bits is a Rasta-Sheltie! Dred-gril!!

I brush them all over with Chris Christenson's pin brush ( 1 1/2") to get rid of the knots, and then I line comb them with a small tooth comb.
 
Ooo this is really interesting.

From day one I use a pin brush first, holding the hair back and brushing down (if that makes sense) I go over all of him with that, then over with a greyhound comb, then finally with the Masons brush. He copes okay with it, but then its also been this routine since he was a pup so I guess he's used to it, its just getting him up on the table, he tends to run away when he see's it all coming out :lol:
 
Jodie Kia does the same as soon as she sees the brushes and combs coming out she's off hiding.:lol: It's a riot. they just know and it's as if their saying please no not brushing !!:lol:
