I went to Walmart and bought a few cheap imitations of the tools mentioned so that I could have an idea of how they worked.
The rake was ok but didn't really do what I wanted it to. I found it great for getting the loose fur out of their ruffs without stripping.
The imitation Mars was really cheap but did the trick. Took out all of the loose undercoat without pulling too much.
That being said, Toby still made a stink, regardless of the tools I bought specifically for him. He snapped at me twice and both times there was almost zero pulling. We worked through it though with lots of praise.
I guess I'm just going to have to work with him more to convince him that brushing is nice. I'll just start brushing him daily whether I think he needs it or not.
