Loss of pigmentation on the nose and lips...

My 2 year sheltie Dakota was loosing pigment on her nose, so I went internet surfing and found out that plastic bowls will cause loss of pigmentation on the nose or lips. Sure enough I got a stainless steel feeding bowl and her pigmatation came back. So never use a plastic bowl for water or feeding. Also, later she started losing pigmentation on her bottom lip and stopped using the Kong and her pigmentation came back as well. Some dogs are sensative to plastics and rubber.

Thats interesting. Tully actually prefers to drink out of the plastic bowl outside (I use plastic and ceramic outside so it doesnt get too hot in the sun) rather than the stainless steel and pet fountain inside. I suppose it makes sense given some PET containers leak chemicals into the water.
 
That's interesting. Bailey's nose is a little pink, but she's drinks from a stainless steel bowl and eats from a ceramic bowl. I do give her kongs, but she would be really upset if I stopped that. Does having a little pink on the nose cause any health problems?
 
Inside the house we have the EatBetter and DrinkBetter bowls. Smuff's outide water dish (that gets carried back inside the house when they aren't out because I don't want mosquitos thank you very much) is also a DrinkBetter bowl. Then each dog has their own crate bowl for water.

No pink noses. :confused2:

N not at all. unless it is collie nose. You can do a search on that on google. I have a collie friend of mine. One of her collie's have collie nose. i think just pink is fine. but when it gets ulcers on it and is real irratated thats when to check it out with a vet. Istead of giving dakota a kong, when I leave for work a smear a little peanut butter in their bowls, they love it. She also was crazy about her kong's.

2 dogs plus numerous fosters here.
we have been using nothing but plastic bowls for 5 years. never had a nose problem.
 
We used empty 1 pound margarine tubs or honey containers for years with the dogs (easiest when they want a dish in the bedroom, in the hall, in the laundry room, outside). Wash them or throw them out when needed. Never had a problem with any pink noses. The only problem I had was that Emma wanted to carry the full dishes around outside.
