Loving this site!

I discovered this site a few months ago, and I'm so glad I did. It makes me smile every single day.

I love all dogs, but collies have always been my passion. I got my first when I was two months old and my last one died several years ago. There were six in all between the ones my parents owned and the ones I got after leaving home. Following the last collie, a border collie came into our lives and she is the most incredible dog. So, so smart. As in I talk to her like a person and she understands me. She's also the most low maintenance dog I've ever known. Odd for a border, I know. Being a collie fanatic, I've always had FITS over shelties. Tiny collies in appearance, I always wanted one and fate just never intervened as all of my animals since I left home have been rescues. Then several months ago I discovered Luckie. She was a year old and she was living in deplorable conditions. I took one look at her and knew that her owner was going to give her to me or I was going to make her disappear, but she was MINE the moment I saw her.

She came home with me, and has absolutely taken over my home and my heart. I could cry just thinking about her. This is a dog who was never socialized, never taken into a home, never seen a vet, who had been living in a tiny kennel in her own feces. Next to a PIG. I'm not kidding. A pig. Anyway,
that little princess cleaned up beautifully and came into this house just knowing
she belonged. With amazingly little effort she was housentrained. We may
have had five accidents total. She and my border collie have become best
friends, and she's given Trixie a new lease on life. At eight, Trixie is more
energetic than ever and we joke that she's lost five pounds on the Luckie
workout plan. Luckie has learned to enjoy her walks, and is still working on
trusting my kids. They adore her but their energy makes her nervous. We'll
get there, though.

So.....that's the LONG story on what led me here. In the early days I was so concerned about some of her nervous behaviors, and in my research I found this site. Collies will always be my first love, but, wow, these shelties are right at the top of my list alongside their bigger cousins. Love, love, love this baby
girl of mine.

Now.....if any of you have a magic cure for the incessant barking that these little stinkers are so guilty of, do tell. Have MERCY!!!! With my collies, I could
at least shush them and they would be quiet for a while. Not this gal! Lol! It's as if she starts and can't stop if she wants to. :)

Happy to be a sheltie mom after all these years! And I have no idea what's happened to this post with the choppiness? I tried to fix it and can't. Maybe it's that I'm on an iPad??

Welcome! We love it when our lurkers come out of hiding! And bless you for making Luckie part of your life. She sounds like a very lucky girl indeed! We want pictures! :biggrin2:

Now, as to that barking thing...those of us who've tried everything you can think of will tell you there is one remedy for it: Earplugs! :rolleyes2:

A warm welcome to you and your's. So wonderful of you to give Lucky the life she deserves, My Grandmother raised collies and I love them too-so gentle. Yes, the barking ,to me. is talking, and just like with kids, they need to learn when and what is appropriate. Using an indoor voice IS possible and my dog Sally has all sorts of weird noises she makes when requested to use her indoor voice. I was a lurker for a long time too, and I now enjoy sharing with the other sheltie lovers here. Now, you know that we will need pictures of your dear Lucky !!!

Welcome here. It's great that you give Luckie a forever home. She indeed is a beautiful little girl, feel free to post the pics:winkgrin:

You are definitely a full member of Sheltie Nation for giving Lucky the home she deserves. Give up -- they all bark. We find that quietly saying "Thank you," helps.

Welcome! Great story and so happy to hear you gave Luckie a loving home. Thankfully right now Skyla only barks when she's really riled up and playful, but I know there's a chance it will get worse lol. Cant wait to see pictures! :wink2:

OOOWEEE..a long time lurker has finally introduced themselves! Welcome to sheltie nation/forums. Its great to meet you.

Sounds like just a really fun family you have, looking forward to pictures. I won't beg...cause others will!!:wink2:

We are owned by 4 dogs. 3 of which are shelties.
Our Mia is a double merle, deaf & blind. And the boys Trapp & Jasper are half brothers.
Our Earnhardt rounds out the canine part of the family. And a new member a rescue flame point persian,,Phoenix!

welcome to the Sheltie Nation Forums!
thanks for rescuing Luckie, sounds like she was rescued just in time for you and Trixie :D
Yep, they bark... and spin, go ballistic at the weirdest thing... but definitely bark lolll
I found giving them something else to do is key so the barking is not incessant. I get Toffee to find me a specific toy etc he usually can't multi task and search using his nose and bark at the same time, lol

Welcome to the forum! Luckie sure is aptly named.

Would love to see a picture of her and Trixie both!

Welcome to the forum and thank you for givng Luckie the loving home she deserves. I just can't imagine why people get dogs and lock them away in a crate. Very sad.
