MacGreggor is Losing His Blue

When we first got Mac he had some blue spots on his side. He is now a few days short of being 4 months old and the spots have vanished! He also has some long hairs on his back that have come in and they are totally a different texture than the short puppy hair. The texture is corse not smooth and silkie like our girls. He has also developed, if it is not my mind playing tricks on me, more white hair, and the white areas seem to be expanding. We haven't sent in his AKC papers yet; I don't know what to put for his coloring. His mom is a shaded merle and dad is a merle. My question is, how much of a change can we expect from puppy coloring to adult coloring? We also have two sables and I don't remember their coloring changing so much.

his mom is a shaded merle, do you mean sable and not blue, his dad is blue merle ? if i remember his pic right, i would call him a blue merle
 
Check with the breeder to check to make sure the coloring is correct on the registration papers...I only do sables here So I only have one option to fill out, and I do it on the new owners paperwork anyway.

As far as the coat texture that is correct, the adult coat should not be silky or soft, it should be course/harsh. The undercoat is soft and downy like.
 
Coloration can change quite a bit, at least as far as I've seen. Cora had a white spot between her eyes when she was a pup, and now that's the darkest area on her head (first pic was in December, second was last June when she was 16 weeks). She's also many shades darker across her back and you can see black tinges in the collar (which was nearly all white before) and ears.

Third time is the charm. Mac's mom is a sable merle. I can't believe I mis-typed it, then when trying to correct it got it wrong again!! I am really tired and preoccupied today.

I was confused since I thought that MacGreggor was a smerle- I was thinking that he shouldn't have any blue to lose:wink2:.
I try to keep up with who has smerles since I love mine and I like to see all the color variations.
Cran's colors changed on a weekly basis as he was growing- he's stabilized more since he's over 2 now. You can see his whole progression here: http://cranberrycallie.shutterfly.com/

Cran is beautiful; thanks for the pictures. MacGreggor is changing almost daily, guess he is a work in progress.
