Made of Hemp!

When Megan has her collar on, a regular one, it seems to irritate her, she scratches at it sometimes, etc. When I take it off, she seems fine! I googled hypoallergenic dog collars and came across a website called shoredog.com. They advertise collars, leashes and all that are made of HEMP material, any of you know about this or use a collar made of this?

I think hemp comes from the marijuana plant, so it would be very natural, I had some shoes made from it and they were very comfy.

I think the company Earth Dog,which is where I ordered what I thought at the time I wanted for a martingale coller on Trapp, uses hemp in thier products. Its all earth friendly products and company.

I paid quite a bit for this collar, but after I had it for so long, always not thinking to put it on him, plus the fact it is to wide,it now sits. And to late to return or get a refund.

Nicely made though~

Does she normally wear her collar all the time or is it only one when you walk her?

Bailey used to scratch at her collar when she only wore it once or twice a day just to be walked. Now that she wears her collar 24/7, she doesn't scratch at it anymore. I think when they are not used to wearing a collar all the time, it feels uncomfortable to them.

Other than to be brushed or bathed, she wears it 24/7..She hasn't worn it once today and has seldom scratched near her neck. I am thinking something about it itches her, maybe the material it's made of, it's not the best, so I might try a different material

Consider a martingale collar. They sit loose around the neck when not attached to a leash so you might find it less irritating.

Also get one that is as thin as possible. Several of us ordered these custom made collars from Leashes by Design (although Shannon is currently not taking orders). These are great! If you get a 6 strand they are so lightweight your pup won't even notice them!

Earth Dog also has hemp martingale collars, but I find them a little wide.

I know a few of you here use Martingales, I will look into them . Can you get a martingale hemp type in the stores or just online? :biggrin2:

Hemp in this use is not the same as marijuana. It is a natural fibre instead and has many uses including clothing. It is interesting that they use it for collars. Would never have thought.
