Male leakage?

Has anyone experienced a male that leaks?

I have noticed that Baron seems to be leaking urine! It seems to happen mostly when he is going in or outside. Not sure if it is an excited urination. Sometimes it is after he has already done out to pee. Weird.

It is not often, maybe once a week or once every two weeks. Before I take him in to see the vet, I wanted to get some guidance from the forum members who might have encountered this before.

His history is that he was fixed and never used as a breeding dog as he ran oversized.

I will take him in for a UTI test.

Read online: weak sphincter diagnosis ... The dog was given Proin to help with sphincter control This medication did work, however, I was not interested in using a medication long-term. Treated by a veterinarian who does animal chiropractic care. He was 80% improved after one visit to the chiropractor. He has had two chiropractic appointments thus far (2 weeks apart) and is doing very well with MUCH less leaking!

Koko leaked, but he was intact when I got him, and had been used for stud. It was just a little dribble I noticed when he got up, sometimes not always. I didn't think too much of it. The day he dribbled a bit of blood we were at the vet right away! Doc decided to treat it as infection first (bladder and prostate) but warned me it could be worse (cancer). I was an emotional mess till that all cleared up. He was a different dog after that! So much more energy! Of course he was neutered as soon as he was healthy again. And it never came back so crossing fingers its all good for Baron too!
 
So I'm not sure who posted that a chiro cured the dog, but IF the problem is a weak sphincter, a chiro is unlikely to do any good. Skylar was having a problem with leakage while she was sleeping (granted, she's female). She was put on proin, which helped but didn't cure her. I had an ultrasound done to rule out any other causes, since spay incontinence is very unusual in such a young dog. It turned out she has a recessed vulva and recently underwent surgery to correct it. She's still recovering from surgery but has had NO issues with leakage since the surgery. So what was happening was that urine was pooling in the skin pocket when she urinated, and when she slept it just leaked out. Plus it was causing an infection around her vulva, which was making matters worse. So definitely, I would encourage you to do whatever diagnostic testing is needed, but to also not be worried about the proin. Skylar did just fine with it.

Margo, wow, that must have been quite a scare! Thank goodness I am not seeing any blood in his urine! I would have been an emotional wreak as well if I had seen that! Will definitely schedule a vet visit. So glad Koko is better with the medication!

Cara, glad that Skylar got her issue corrected with surgery. Never considered ultrasound. Hope surgery will not be needed.

The ultrasound was pretty expensive but totally worth it! We were able to rule out things like cancer or congenital kidney issues or any of the other very scary possibilities.
 
When I had Logan ultrasounds before he passed my vet charged around $250! Reasonable when you consider the piece of mind of ruling other things out!

I have been letting Baron out more times today. Sometimes he just does not want to go. So, I have to get stern with him and not let him in until he pees! So far, no leaks!

I paid $550!!!!!!!

But glad that you and he have come to an understanding :-)
