Meet Jake, our new sable puppy

Jake looks like a good size to me. At twelve weeks my Dickens had such big paws he looked like he was wearing snowshoes; he turned out big at 20.5 inches.

Btw, Jake weighs 8.56 pounds at 12 weeks. For those of you who have experience with sheltie puppies, how does that weight sound.... about average size for his age or on the larger side? Jake was the largest puppy in a litter of four, but all of the puppies seemed to be on the small side for shelties. Of course, anything can happen during the growing stage... so who knows how large or small he will be... just wondering how he stands now in comparison. Thanks!

My Spirit Joy was only about 3 pounds at 12 weeks. She's a tiny little sheltie, full grown at 12 inches and 11 pounds. One of the other puppies from her litter was 8 pounds at 12 weeks and wound up being over sized.

Oh my ---- Jake is simply so beautiful.

Yes, the puppy stage is certainly not my favorite either, but it comes with when I want to shape my puppies. :biggrin2:

But I must also say that Minnie certainly has been a really, really easy puppy. :hugs

One accident indoor (my fault) learned really quickly what not to chew on - but always full of fun and activity, so I was quite tired, in return lot of delightful walks

Thanks to all for the responses and nice comments! The lighter fur on Jake's face gives the appearance of chipmunk cheeks! I tried to convince my son to accept another name for Jake, but there was no changing his mind... not that I don't like the name Jake, I do... I just preferred a name that isn't so common.

Daisy1015.... I have no idea whether or not he comes from heavy-coated lines. Thanks for the link for the size chart.... it is very helpful. Jake seems to be on target to be right at the 16" mark, or slightly over. I can't imagine having a puppy and 3 young children like you... all of a sudden, I am not feeling as tired as I was! I only have one child, age 10, and he has been a big help.

Mignarda... Wow... a 20.5" sheltie?! My oldest sheltie is 19" and I thought he was tall. I have always been partial to the larger shelties. Do you have a photo of Dickens? I'd love to see him.

Cara Sandler... you bring up a good point... one litter can turn out a great variance in size. Jake's litter of four are all very close in size. What a big difference between Spirit Joy and her largest sibling! Is that Spirit Joy in your profile picture? What a cutie!

Hanne... how wonderful that Minnie has only had one accident! Wish I could say the same for Jake, but we are getting there. He is definitely making progress... hopefully it will all click soon for him.

Jake's a very handsome pup, who at twelve weeks looks almost like a scaled-down grown-up Sheltie. He's sure to be a stunner!

Thank you! Yes, that's my Spirit Joy :-)

Jake is a handsome little fellow and with all that fur all ready for winter! Phoebe weighed 6 lbs at 12 weeks, 8.6 at 16 weeks, and is now 10.75 at 20 weeks. Smaller boned than Jake, and a female, she is closer to the top of the chart in height and lower middle in weight.
Welcome to the world of sharp baby teeth!

It's only been a couple of months since Cooper was that age, and for the life of me, I can't remember how much he weighed. Of course, I'm so brain dead- tired of thinking at this moment in time that I can't remember anything. I'm glad I remember that I have Cooper and the Belles.

Jake is about as cute as a puppy can be! Just adorable.
