Hello, I am new to this forum! I am 19 & I have a 5 year old tri-color named Nicky :) Here is a recent picture:

After losing my 7r old Beagle to cancer, I just couldn't live without a dog around. I wasn't sure what breed I wanted, but when I discovered the Sheltie I fell in LOVE. After 2 months of searching, I finally found a breeder online w/ 4 tricolor males available & on September 2nd 2007, we made the 5 hour drive to Maine. I chose Nicky because he was calm & sweet :) I held him the way entire way home & we've been inseparable ever since. Literally. I cannot go anywhere without him by my side, he even follows me into the bathroom
He's HUGE for a Sheltie, so obviously he wasn't show quality ... plus, one of his ears doesn't stand up straight w/ the other one, LOL, but that's what makes him cute!
He's seriously the love of my life. He's so playful, smart & full of personality.
I just wanna hug him all the time!

Anyways, he's been having some issues with his skin. We're still trying to figure out what causes it, but thankfully it's not cancer. We just had a really bad scare when the vet discovered something that looked like a tumor on his back leg. He had it removed, I was so afraid that it was cancer & I was going to lose him :( I held him every night & just cried until the test results came back ... it was benign! I was so relieved!! He is happy & healthy :) We're waiting for his incision from surgery to heal & then he gets to go to the groomers for a good haircut (LOTS of hair)

I can just hear your love for Nicky loud and clear, how lucky you have one another. I am happy your baby doesnt have cancer, you sound like a wonderful parent. He is handsome.

Welcome to the forum! Nicky is so cute--I'm glad to hear that the lump was benign :) I know how important these little guys are to us.

Hey, welcome !! Nicky is very handsome. You two sound like great friends. My dog Sally is my buddy too. Shelties are so much fun so you will find this forum fun too.

Welcome ... Nicky is adorable! Glad the tumor was benign! Sounds like you and Nicky have a wonderful bond ... enjoy every day!

Welcome to SN!

Nicky is a handsome boy. Who cares if his ears aren't perfect. Our Bentley's ears are as big as a mule. We adopted him from a rescue when he was just 1.5 years old. He just turned 5 years old in May.

Regarding his skin issues, try switching him to Canadae Grain Free or other high quality grain free kibble and see if it helps. Many dogs have allergies to grains and they really don't tolerate them well.

Glad you found your heart Sheltie. Give him kisses for me!
Susan

Welcome! Nicky is absolutely adorable. I always advise taking the dog to the vet for skin issues. There are a few possibilities, allergies, staph, thyroid disease etc. I had alot of experience with my Gypsy who had skin issues and they can get out of hand quickly so a vet check may be best.

Welcome to you and Nicky! He is very cute!

Sounds like you love him a lot, which makes you fit in nicely around these parts :smile2:
