Merled Eyes?

I love merles too and that's why I got two! And by looking at them and all of the pictures of everyone's dogs, you can see the vast variety of colors that they 'come' in. I think shelties are just such unique beautiful dogs - no two are alike! Just look at all the variations in sables! :smile2: Chinook has a merled eye, I love it.

Crestlynn, I went to your website - stunning dogs! I love them!

I've had 3 blues, and I wanted all of them to have blue or merled eyes...and only my 3rd has a merled eye! (All three are related, grandsire, mother and son).

Awww...thank you! I sure hope you got to see "all" of the dog and not just the "eyes":wink2:

I have several blues. They don't have to have blue eyes, I look for conformataion first, but given the choice, I will pick blue eyes every time! I have a Collie friend that HATES the blue eyes and breeds it out of his dogs!

I saw the entire animal on your site, Crestlynn, and yo have GORGEOUS animals!

Well, I gotta say--I am really starting to have an appreciation for sable merles! Now that I have out of my mind that Ellie will not be the same color as my formers babies, I am starting to become fasinated by the varieties of outcomes of coloring of a sable merle. Ania sent me the most wonderful link from her breeder that shows how some sable merles look growing up. They change quite a bit and are quite different from each other. If anyone is interested in looking here's the link.

When I got Honey in 1981 (yeah, I know, looong time ago) the popular colors were sable and white and tri. That's it. Blue? Nah. When I got Jazz in 1995 and picked him up at the breeder, THEN they had some blues. I thought they were BEAUTIFUL! That breeder did not like blue eyes, so all his blues had brown eyes, hence, me never seeing a merled eye (I have seen a lot of pure blue eyes on a dog, but not merled). This go-around finding a Sheltie, I still had a strong preference for a sable. My second preference was a for a blue girl. I had a heck of a time finding either. Finaly found Ellie and you know the rest.

Sounds like you got a little of both! A sable merle!

Both of Darcy's eyes are merled. The left is split in half and if you don't look at it close you would think he has a complete blue eye and on his right it's just a speckle. I was afraid b/c the sound of it made my husband think it was going to look creepy...So silly! He of course loves it now!

Very unusual! I am getting a real appreciation of this type of eye color!
