My auntie's dear sable sheltie Merlin celebrates his 14th birthday today! I can't believe how time has gone so fast as I vividly remember his puppy days and what a funny looking dog he was until reaching full sheltie magnificence at 3. People used to ask my auntie "what's it going to be?"
Merlin is the reason for my sheltie passion/obsession(?) as when I was looking for a dog I considered about 50 different breeds and completely disregarded having a sheltie, until my auntie explained why she had one and I realised it was exactly the dog I was looking for. The rest as they say, is history.
Merlin himelf was chosen because my auntie was walking a female sable sheltie, Misty, for an elderly lady. Misty later was inherited by my auntie when the lady died and was a treasured member of our family, sadly not for long enough.
So today I am thinking of Merlin (who BTW has been given a tuggy toy as a present as he is becoming more playful by the day!) and remembering Misty who started us on this wonderful sheltie journey.
