Merlin has had all his jabs now, so he was able to go to the puppy playgroup my training club holds on a Saturday afternoon (actually its for dogs of any age but the pups have their own area).
There was only one other puppy, unfortunately, belonging to one of the training team. Its a shame more people didn't come, I suppose they were put off by the bit of drizzle that was coming down (cowards!
)
Anyway, there was Crumble the 12 week Goldendoodle and Lloyd a nearly year old border collie x Norfolk terrier (who is the weirdest looking dog ever!) and then Lucky the labrador who belongs to one of the supervisors and is a very calm adult dog.
Merlin had a fab time. I thought he might be nervous, but he took to the other dogs really well, even boisterous Crumble. Of course he was the smallest there, but he held his own. He did tell Crumble off for being too rough, but as soon as we removed Crumble he chased after her. So my trainer said that was fine, he was just letting her know not to play so rough.
He aced all his recalls and got praised by the supervisor and another success was that he toileted in the outside area, which is the first time he has done that outside the garden, despite me taking him to training club every Wednesday and Friday with Cadbury. So I was really pleased.
He is still getting used to having a lead on, however, and the supervisor noticed that he was slightly more wary around the other dogs with his lead on because he felt restrained.
At the very end a few of the nice, adult dogs were brought through on leads to meet the puppies. Merlin instantly took to an enormous Irish Wolfhound, he was too short to even reach the dog's nose! But he thought he was wonderful.
All in all a great afternoon.
And before I get told off for not taking any pics, I couldn't persuade anyone to come with me and hold the camera for me and I wanted to keep my full attention on Merlin as it was his first time. But now I know he gets on well, I'll take the camera to the next playgroup which is in a fortnight.
