My Boys Are Not Girls

Thats funny because people alwas call Bailey a boy. I think most people tend to refer to a dog's sex by whatever their dog is. So, if they have a girl dog, theyll call all dogs girls. Unless you correct them.

We have the opposite problem. Our Bailey is a boy and came to us from rescue already knowing his name so we kept it. If people hear the name they assume he is a girl. Our friend always teases us telling us its because of his beautiful hair.

I have a male, and a female dog. I do tend to call dogs "he" if i dont ask first. people call aztec a she all the time...but laika gets called a male much more often!

my brother calls dogs its :rolleyes2: i'd rather them be called the wrong gender than "it".

I think it must be the beautiful hair that prompts people to assume most shelties are girls. Domino is always referred to as a she...no matter how many times I correct. It doesn't help that he looks very elegant, for want of a better word, and really does prance when he walks and runs.

It does make me laugh though when he pees with his leg cocked up and people still refer to him as a girl!

I always get that either Sadie is the mom and Ginny is the pup, or that Ginny is the girl and Sadie is a boy. People just look at their sizes and assume.

I don't know why people would think your two are girls. I know I some times call boy dogs girls out of habit, since I have two girl dogs myself. Maybe people are making the same mistake out of habit with your boys?

Ohh and MMM pees like a girl which makes it all the worse![/QUOTE said:
Same situation here. Spencer has never lifted his leg; he kind of stands with his legs spread apart and his tail cocked and sends that stream straight down.
And I think the beautiful coats our pups have might have people thinking "pretty girl" rather than "handsome boy".

LOL
Broken paw... and another of many who pees like a girl... SO cute

Humans are the only ones that do gender benders like that, I think. A dog knows what another dog's gender is, hellooooo SNIFFING butt probably makes it so much easier.. hahahaha I'd rather stick with the guesswork and correcting people than smelling butt to figure it out :eek2::wink2:
hahahaha

Toffee is a bit of a long legged athletic looking Shelties, he still gets called a girl... usually by people with large dogs, AND same story as Lovely my Instructor smacks her head at least twice a training class, calling him a her LOL

Maybe it's that Lassie thing. As we all know, our shelties are just little Lassies, right? :wink2: And Lassie was a girl--well, technically, Lassie was a boy--wow, this is getting confusing.
