is it possible? ever since he was 2 years old he would fallow me EVERYWHERE to my room to the kitchen to the bathroom he sits at my feet when ever i stop moving or when i sit down....if i'm not in the house he sits at the door for the first 5-10 minutes then he runs from room to room looking for me, barking and whinning the whole way...

it wasn't so bad when he was little because he was quicker to move and to get out of people's way...but now that he's getting older *(and i think has authritus in his back legs *hard for him to get up sometimes*)* he's been slower to get out of the line of being stepped on. i dont do it on purpose it just seems like he does it on purpose when he runs around me gets in front of me and bam! my foot hits a furry paw. he's never yelped at it ( dont wear shoes in the house) it's just i dont understand what's going on in his little brain of his. he's the sweetest lovingest most dog i've ever had aside from prince (collie i had untill i was 10) and it just confuses me as to why he's always right there!

another thing that i find slightly bothersome but doesn't pertain to the fallowing. is when i'm in a room (yes he's with me!) he loves and i mean LOVES to fiddle with my cloths with his paws and then lay on them. just plops right down on top of them and cuddles up...i know what your thinking why dont you put them in a hamper he wont get them... WRONG! he will grab them with his mouth and then pull them out onto the floor...and paw at the clothing untill he see's it fit to lay on and then plops right on down again... another thing you might be wondering why not get him a doggie bed for your room? we have one....my room, the living room, the kitchen....we've spent almost 300 dollars on doggie beds that he WONT USE!

so what's going on? is there something i did when i was younger to make him act like this? or is it just a shelties way of saying i love you? is there any way i can prevent the stepped on paws when he moves slow to get out of the way? how do i get him to stop sleeping on my cloths! oh, AND HOW DO I GET HIM TO STOP FALLOWING ME INTO THE BATHROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since he has arthritis...he can't help it!! So I guess just not be in such a hurry!! Your doggy is saying slow down and smell the roses!! LOL
Plus..with mine I make a fool outta myself and say "beep beep" so they get outta the way..LOL

I'm thinking he sleeps on your clothes because they smell like you...maybe sleep in the doggy beds so they smell like you..LOL

Ya...with a Sheltie it means never going to the bathroom alone..it goes with territory!! enjoy it!! LOL

Sheltie habits !!

Yes they do have their quirks but who doesn't. Kia follows me everywhere also even into the bathroom when I'm showering. She lyes on the towel till I get out. she will even assist with the drying .:rolleyes2: She will lick the water off my legs. :lol: Okay sounds wierd but if I don't allow her in she cries. The line is drawn when I have to go potty then she must wait outside and her snout is peeking under the door.:lol: Welcome to Sheltie World
 
Yup - it is a sheltie thing! Maia follows me around everywhere! and yes even to the bathroom. My last sheltie did the same thing - he had horrible separation anxiety if I left.

And the sleeping on your clothes thing - it is your scent - so I guess Julie is right - if you want to stop that and want him to sleep in his bed, you will have to sleep in it first! :eek2::lol:

They are cute aren't they? With their little quirks - gotta lov'em!
 
It does sound like a sheltie thing. Sadie follows me into every room and usually ends up standing in the direction I want to go. I try to avoid her but she gets stepped on some times. I like the idea of saying 'Beep Beep.' I'll have to remember that one!

As for sleeping on your clothes, Sadie does that at every opportunity, although she doesn't steal out of the hamper. My guess is that your sheltie is very attached to you and probably finds your smell comforting, like a small child likes his/her blanket :smile2:

You might consider leaving the dog bed in the hamper with your dirty laundry. Maybe he'd use it if it smelled like you.
 
He loves you!

Gavin once pushed open the bathroom door to get to me! Normally, he doesn't have to be underfoot, but I move he instantly has to check it out. And he finds dirty clothes to curl up with when I'm not home. I usually find my sweatpants at the front door, but he has gone through the clothes hamper before. And once I came home to lingerie strewn all over my living room :winkgrin:

These are things dog owners just accept (puppy proofing is a never ending job), but would probably drive a non-dog owning/loving person insane!
 
I think he knows your his person and he just wants to be with you. Darcy has an infinity for eating my underwear. I've had to buy new undies several times maybe I should buy stock in Hanes. :rolleyes2: I would take laying on my dirty cloths any day since it would force me to buy new ones :lol:
 
Just a Sheltie thing, you need 3 of them, all want to be with me all the time, talk about side stepping, but I do not care, I love them to death, I would not trade all that affection for anything.
 
Yep, yep, yep and yep!

I thought I'd finally gotten to go the bathroom by myself when my kids grew up. Those days are gone. Bacca insists on resting his head on my leg. Indy isn't quite as pushy but certainly has to be part of the action.

Showers....I use a towel on my head and upper body, and the boys take care of the legs. I guess I'm fortunate that I have two dedicated bath attendants to care for me.

Following: You betcha. The boys may be fast asleep but as soon as I get up and move to another room, they both bolt awake and are right on my heels.

Don't know if its a Sheltie thing or just a dog thing (I've only ever had Shelties, except for Cockers when I was really young).
 
As has been said, it's just the way of shelties. There are some things you can do to stop it though.

When a dog gets arthritis, I tell them to stay as I am coming toward them, then I step over the dog. My husband wouldn't do that for my last sheltie, and kept telling her to move--she would get up slowly and move right into the area my husband wanted to be. After several months he decided I was right and had to retrain the sheltie to stay. She kept getting worse arthritis until she died, so it was just easier for everybody.

I have used an old towel to dry off after working in the garden, but before I showered. That towel smells like me and I throw it in his crate. Also useful to throw old clothes that you have done a lot of hard work in, and smells like you.

Keep your hamper in your bathroom and keep the door closed when you are using it, and also when it is empty. Not as easy for the dog to get your clothes. Also, use "Quiet" or "No Bark" when you are in the bathroom, if he has already been trained for those commands. If he hasn't been trained "No Bark" or "Quiet", it would probably be a good time to teach it to him.
