My new puppy :)

Meggie was 15 weeks when I brought her home, so I can't really speak about an 8 week old. Meggie slept from 9:00 p.m. until about 5:00 a.m. the first couple of days, and then started sleeping until my alarm went off. Now, 2 years later, she wakes when the alarm goes off, even when it doesn't. Her internal clock is spot on!

I brought something home from the breeder that had her littermates scent on it and I put it in her crate, along with a soft, cushy blanket. After a few days I put one of my tank tops in there after having worn it. Then she had my scent too.

I know that the whimpering can be heartbreaking, but if you're sure she doesn't need to go potty, you're better off ignoring her. I know it's hard!
 
My pup has been sleeping though the night since 8 wks. The first night I brought him home he woke up once and I took him out and then he barked(he is not a whiner) a few more times and I knew he was just being fussy. I threw a big stuffed kitty in his kennel and he snuggled up to it and fell sleep. Never heard a peep out him.

My pup loves the cold.-2F this morning and he was running like a mad man. Just take them out and they'll can use to it.
 
Maggie and Cozmo were both about 10 weeks when they left their litter mates. Maggie we had in a crate next to our bed, she wimpered a for maybe 5 minutes, then nothing until we woke in the morning. We had the opening closed, but facing us. That was the only night she wimpered. Cozmo got the same treatment, never wimpered. We then eventually moved their crates to another location in a few days.

Mnay congratulations on your new puppy, how lovely she sounds!!

It's going back many years now, but Revel I remember was pretty good from day 1, sleeping through the night from about the second night.
Yogi on the other hand, took forever to housetrain and started off by crying a lot in the night. A sheltie owning friend suggested covering his crate at night and I think he also had a heat pad under his bed as we lived in a draughty house and she wondered if he was a bit chilly. It immediatly sorted the night issues out and to this day, he has his crate covered at night. I think it just makes him feel more secure.
 
Cran had to go out a few times at night when first came home. I also covered his crate (in the bedroom). I didn't let him have water after about 915-930 at night- that helped too. He is a camel now though and will practically drink a whole bowl of water at one time :wink2:
