my puppy is scared of outside

Duncan loves the outdoors, but is still jumpy about loud noises, including barking dogs, noisy vehicles passing by and low-flying airplanes overhead. He heads straight to one of us for protection when these occur. I'm already seeing a lessening in his reaction to these things, though, as he gets older. I hope you'll see the same thing soon.

To further this, its really important not to give too much attention while pup is acting out. All this does is reinforce the behaviour. (Hmmm.....I must be doing something right, if I'm getting hugs and pets!) So be matter of fact and calmly bring pup inside. And try again, for increasingly longer times.

Absolutely agree - especially if he is going through a fear period. But you can make it a great fun place.

Hey Davemize - your lucky Duncan is still scared of plane noises. Soon enough he will be barking at them to go away like Shelties do. So far my boy has a 100% success rate at protecting the neighbourhood from planes.:lol:

We had hot air balloons try to land across the street a few weeks ago! Well, they will never try THAT again! My boys gave them the what-for! Next time, they'll land somewhere far, far from here. Good thing I had my boys to protect me from that! :biggrin2:

We're on the flight path from D.C. to Camp David. Boy, the President gets what-for every time he encroaches into Sheltie Airspace! :lol:

:lol: Yep, I can just see him giving a plane what-for. He hasn't learned to look up yet when they pass over, so he doesn't know what's causing the noise.
 
he's getting used to the outside environment, but only limited to the street we live on and the park at the end of the street. he loves to play in the park and chase me when i run around.

baby steps! This is good so far. A little at a time and soon enough he will be fine. Great to hear that he is doing so well.
