My Sheltie the Chaperone !

I am having a rather humorous behavior issue with my 5-year-old sheltie. It seems that he thinks that he is my chaperone. He does what he can to prevent my girlfriend and I from participating in 'adult activities'. When my long-term girlfriend comes over to spend the weekend it takes a little while to settle down and get used to her being there. Which I expect. The fun happens when we retire back to the bedroom. He is fine until we begin ‘adult activities’. When the activities begin, he begins to bark and run from one end of the bed to the other. Fortunately he doesn’t jump on the bed, he just puts his front paws on the bed, jumps down, runs to the other side barking and repeats. It’s kind of a mood kill. Anyone experience similar behavior? Any suggestions? I’ve tried leaving him out in the hall, but he just scratches at the door whining and barking.

Scott,time for the crate !

There's nothing worse to kill a mood than a nagging dog. You thought you left home away from your parents ? Right you are now owned by a Sheltie. Oh course the crate is for the dog, just wanted to make that clear.:eek2:

I had a the same kind of thing happen, I had a girl over and things were going well and my Pup Hazel starts jumping around and barking, Hazel she is not a big barker at all. I had to put her in the crate, still barked and barked. So we went to bed, I left her in the living room and she calmed down when we left. Just own your space and keep the pup out of the bed room.

At least all Annie Laurie does is count everybody's drinks. Past two and she huffs around the room, radiating disapproval.

This reminds me of a story about the psychic who talked to dogs. I remember one woman said, "why does my dog get all crazy when me and my bf are involved in adult activites (as you said)". And she talked to the dog, laughed and said, "the dog thinks he's being left out because you two are jumping up and down on the bed, and he can't. He wants to join the fun"

So, maybe all you have to do is explain that it's not time for him to have fun with you two. lol I'd definitely suggest crating in your room or another room.

Crate, crate, and then crate! I too, have a weekend spouse! The boys get crated when he's over at night.

There was a time when David and I could enjoy the Sunday morning "snuggles" but the boy's want to go out about 7 a.m. By the time, I let them out and bring them back upstairs so we can enjoy our morning coffee and cuddles, they've now taken over the bed.

I'm thinking about re-crating them in the morning once I've let them out. I normally find David completely buried under blankets with two pups trying to find a way to snuff him out. And it is hard on romance, for sure!

I am glad you all like the 'adult activities' line. I was just trying to keep this all G rated. This is a family forum after all.

Its a good thing that Riley doesn't jump on the bed. I think he's a afraid of heights. LoL All he does is wake me up at 7am for breakfast.
