My wonderful Lily is gone

The most caring, gentle, sweet, tender thing on this planet, in my view, has left this world.
We knew that with her being 13, going on 14, that we were on borrowed time with her life. she left us 0900 on 02/07/2015. She left us in her sleep.
I am having an enormously large problem dealing with her passing.
She depended upon me to keep her safe. Which I would gladly would do and did on occasion, yet I could NOT protect her from this.
Her personality has taught me so much about life. I started writing about her years ago, only I have not completed the book.
Her dedication to me, her steadfastness of behaviors, no matter of circumstances etc. etc.
She made it a routine, every night to gently and so tenderly lick both of my hands to clean them up. I used to comment to my wife at how tender her licks were. It was like she was kissing my hands. She made it a nightly routine, every night, no matter what.
Lily showed my entire family how she loved us in so many ways, that it was never any doubt. It was her gentleness that endeared us to her. She was in no way a lap creature, yet She soaked up our love, and never feared anything that we ever did to Her, as She did not ever get treated without respect, period. She never experienced any type of aggressive behavior from us. She never knew what it would be like to be physically hurt by one of her Humans. I will always feel as tho She was a Blessing from our God, contained in the container of this little creature. I will never say that She was a Dog, She was so much more than that, considering everything that She was to our Family and to the Neighbors that She accepted as members of our Pack. Those Neighbors that dealt with Her on a daily basis, loved Her and say that they never ever met a sweeter creature than She. They are weeping with me about her passing as well.
I never expected this connection to Her, when We got her. We purchased this beautiful creature for my youngest daughter, but She became Bonded to me, and the story goes. I shall never regret this relationship, but I thank the Good Lord for allowing Her to share our life with Her.
All I can say is that I MISS HER SO, I am glad that She passed in Her sleep without experiencing the trauma of leaving while She was awake.
I am wracking my brain trying to figure out what I could have done to try to keep Her with us, when I got to Her. I do know that anything that She ever did for us will never be lost. Thank You Miss Lily.

I am so sorry for the loss of your gentle Lily. You and your family were blessed to have been graced with such a loving soul in your lives...and Lily was equally blessed to have had such a loving family for her time here on earth. May good memories help bring you comfort in this time of grief.

Wow. I am so sorry. I know the depth of bond that is possible with an animal companion. it's like souls that intersect. We also are nearing the end of our earthly journey with our senior sheltie so your loss and description hits me especially hard. I can relate to your connection. She sounds like a very gentle and sweet spirit

they are gifts

So sorry for your LOSS, it isn't easy to say goodbye to these enormously special creatures. I have said on other posts, they get under our skin and leave gaping holes in us when they depart. All you can do is remember all the wonderful lessons they teach us, and how their love and loyalty is so astounding. Time gradually dulls the pain, but it is my hope you can allow another sheltie angel into your pack, not as a replacement for Miss Lily, but because life without a sheltie isn't living....they are truly the BEST!!!! I do believe wholeheartedly that they are on loan from heavenly places.

Hugs headed your way. May you be blessed with the ability to remember the wonderful times you enjoyed with Lily, and the peace to accept that she's no longer sharing this world with you.

It is amazing
At times like this, you always seem to think that this greaving pain is yours alone.
Your out pouring of condolences at this times is reminding that I am not alone in feeling the way that I do. For those, I am thanking you.
My feelings are as real, as She was surreal.
The feelings are common for these wonderful little darlings. Lily was always special, She was always Super.
I have not been a frequent poster, because I was involved with a wonderful Sheltie Named Lily. She took me to class every day, teaching me about lifes lessons, without me realizing that She was teaching and I was her student.
I went to the General section, after pouring my heart out to you, today. In that section, I posted my view of Preparing for that day.
I feel that being able to post on this forum, and the replies that are generated, is helping me cope. I will always have my "What ifs", but my wonderful wife is helping me through those.
Being able to post here is a big help. Thank you

So sorry for your loss. It is so very hard now, but given time, all the good memories that made you smile will help to fill the hole in your heart.

Thinking of you at this difficult time. I hope all your wonderful memories will help, remembering all that you shared together. :hugs
