Neechee would have been 19 today...

I can't help but think that today my angel Neechee would have been 19 years old. It doesn't seem that long ago that I brought home that little 6-week-old, 14 ounce ball of fluff. He lived to the ripe old age of 17-1/2. Always tiny, he was so serious in the obedience ring that people would be smiling as they watched the long sits/downs. While working sheep, he was all business. After all, "sheep are INFERIOR!"

At home, he was a funny little couch potato, and loved cuddling up with me and watching tv. During my many surgery recoveries, he would tuck himself into the hospital bed with me until my mom would come to crate him for the night. (He would try and hide from her.)

He went to work with me 2 days a week, and sat on (not under, but ON) my desk and warned me of people coming down the hall. He'd sleep in my in box when things got boring.

He was my heart dog and my heart. He was with me through loss, divorce, illness and hard times. He never failed to cheer me up and make me laugh.

Here's to you, best friend! I'll meet you at Rainbow Bridge!

Oh our sweet, sweet babies, i will be a wreck when that day comes for Beau(hopefully)not for a long time

I always dreaded that awful day when I'd have to say goodbye, and wondered (like all of us, I suppose) if I would be able to tell when it was time to let him go. I shouldn't have worried so much - he and I both knew when the time came. He died in my arms and my husband and mother had to literally drag me out of the ER vet office. They were crying, too. My dad had just pulled into the parking lot and was walking towards the door, and I grabbed him and kept saying, "He's gone, daddy, he's gone!"

I don't remember much else about that day, other than telling my mom that I wanted him cremated so I could be buried with his ashes. Oh, and my husband trying desperately to get me to change my t-shirt that Neechee had peed on during our desperate drive to the vet ER.

This is the first time I've been able to write about that day since it happened three years ago in March.

Last week I ordered a beautiful t-shirt from Good Deal Designs. (I love her shirts!) It's black with a red paw print heart with white wings. It says in small letters under the paw print "always in my heart". I wore that today.

I had a chihuahua, Marmaduke that I had for 16 and a half years. He passed this past June. I just was heartbroken! He was my baby, he was there thru it all my marriage my college graduation my kids' birth and growing years. I got him as my graduation gift, he was my baby! I understand how you feel. :hugs He was a tiny lil dog at 5 lbs, but he had a HUGE love and a HUGE personality hence his big name Marmaduke. :wink2: He holds a special place in all of our hearts. He was the first and only dog my kids had. He loved my kids to death. Something you don't see in a chihuahua much!!
