We took in a 4 year old female that came from a disabled owner who could not take her out on a regular basis so all she knows are training pads. Some how I need to house train her. She will go potty if you take her outside but problem is she won't let you know when she needs to go.
I don't know where to begin,,open to suggestions!!!
Thanks, Judith

Absolutely, it's like training a puppy. Take her out at least once an hour and give her a command, go potty or whatever you choose. When she goes a yummy treat will help her cement the idea that outside pottying pays off. It will take some time to overcome 4 years of indoor peeing on pads. Kudos to you for rescuing her.

As other poster have said this is like a grown puppy and habits will be a bit harder to break. If there is a mess in the house I would pick it up and take it outside and leave it for her to sniff when she goes out-- I used a spot cleaner vac to clean up pee and I dump the water outside where I want them to go.. Frequently as other have said. I had one dog in belly diapers or waist bands and I would check those frequently and change them-- I had the washable kind. After awhile of doing the above I would notice the waist bands were dry and that is when I knew it was time he could be trusted-- They tend to go where they have gone before so you need to clean up house messes well and again take the stuff outside where you want them to go. All of my dogs have caught on pretty quickly- which does not mean in a few weeks but then they were pups for the most part. Now both of my have different tells when they want to go out-- one a certain whine and the other is a bump and head in lap, repeated several times..I am a slow learner but finally he got thru to me.
