Need Martingale recommendation for 10.5" neck

Hi all,

I have a small guy with a 10.5" neck and a 11.5" across the head. I was hoping to get a braided martingale but the manufacturer indicated that while she could custom make something that size, the fabric gets too stiff and becomes unaffective.

What are your suggestions for something for this little guy?

This company (Cetacea) makes really good martingales. The 10-14" one is really sturdy (not a wimpy chain). I like the 2 step colors. They also snap rather than slip on which I prefer.

Hope this helps. These are my favorite. I ordered the XS for my pup who is already to 10" neck and the S because I can't see his neck ever getting bigger than 18".

Right now we are working on harness but once we have walking figured out and start school we will go to the martingales.

I walked two large Aussies on these for years with great durability. I use the chain ones but they have all soft too with the snap which is unusual.

I chose the 3/8 inch for the 10-14 and the 1/2 inch for the next size up. I had the 3/4 inch on my 95 pound aussie and the 1/2 inch on my 70 pound aussie.

Yes 3/4 will be too big. Choose the 3/8th inch. It is sturdy. Maybe the 1/2 inch if you have real puller or a larger dog.

My Cubby who will be a BIG sheltie will wear no bigger that 1/2 inch ever.

Remember you never leave a martingale on a dog unattended. They can and will choke.

I always have a collar with tags and behind it I snap on the martingale for walking/schooling. During walking time they are essentially double collared. I had an aussie pull out of collar and bolt in tremendous fear with no ID on him. Thankfully he was tracked through a field and came back to me. Forever I will have collar/tags + a martingale or harness during outtings.
 
Thanks for the reply; you've confirmed my thinking that 3/4" would be too big for my little guy.

I would love to get one that does not have a clasp; I worry that the clasp could break and he could make an escape.

Those clasps are very sturdy. Amazon has plenty that don't have clasps but you really need to measure well. You must find out whether the measurement stated includes the chain or not. The best ones are rolled leather with the chain portion but thereagain you need to make sure the measurement is very accurate because if it is too small you choke them badly or too loose they can slip out while not tightened. Adjustable is better in that regard but it is very hard to adjust on a squirming dog every time you put it on or off. I have never since 2002 had a clasp on a collar, martingale, or harness fail no matter what the dog has been like on lead.

Just ordered one of these...this past week Sansa has figured out how to slip out of both her collar and harness...not fun!!! Martingale collar is a must...
 
Cetacea is an excellent choice. I like the side clasp so you don't have to adjust it regularly. I have one for each of my dogs. Melli uses it for all walking. The boys use it in conjunction with a harness when there is something extremely unusual and possibly frightening. My husband flies radio controlled jets so we sometimes have some pretty loud events to attend.
