Shelby's mom

Hang in there. I know how you feel. Our first Sheltie was so easy to train and rarely had any accidents. Never had to be crated.
Then almost 14 years later along comes Shelby.....the complete opposite. It took months for her to be house broken. It took some time for her to learn how to communicate to us that she had to go out. We used to hang bells on the door and taught her to ring them. She never messed in her crate, just in the house. It was very frustrating. She was crated until she was about 2 or 3 years old because she just could not be trusted to not chew things. Then like everyone said one day it just clicked. She started telling us she had to go out and has never had an accident since.
And we learned that she no longer needed to be crated when one day we came home from work and she got herself out of the crated. I panicked and looked everywhere to see what she destroyed and couldn't find a thing Then we decided it was time to give her freedom. Nothing has been destroyed since.
So enjoy the puppy hood and before you know it this will all be a memory.
