I am, of course an owner of a wonderful Sheltie named Brea he is 4 years old and my best friend, He started herding at 6 mos and has the drive. Because of circumstances in our life we discontinued herding but, we are now starting again and he is doing very well and loving it. I would love to hear from other herding sheltie owners. Glad I found this site
 
Welcome!! Duncan is only 11 weeks old, but he likes to herd our other dog already. If they have a group locally, I may try it. If not, well, I don't have any sheep or geese or ducks... just three kitties! I would like him to get some agility in, though - that would be great fun.

I know we would love to see pics/videos of your boy herding! A little education for us non-herding folk. There are a few people who do so on the site, but I am not one... yet. :o
 
welcome! Yea there's no sheep in nyc. Lots of cars and people though. My 16 week old hasn't really show too much of the herding drive.
 
Thanks for the welcomes. I love to hear from other sheltie lovers whether they herd or not. I just love this breed and have had a sheltie in my life for the past 25 years I love to hear of experiences you all have had with your shelties. I have never met a sheltie I haven't liked.:winkgrin:

Hi! I have two shelties, Chinook - a year and a half almost, and Maia - almost one! and they both LOVE to herd! I had them out twice on sheep, and they both have a very high drive for it. I think I will continue with it as they both seemed to love it so much. I have posted video of them herding on YouTube.

We love pictures! So please post some of Brea! We'd love to meet her!

lol - my dogs love herding cars and people! We have tried to get in to herding where I live but they wont let the shelties in - apparently they aren't sheepdogs!?! But my boy has such a natural instinct and is so good at it, he is the only dog I know who can round up kangaroos! I would sooo love to do herding, just to see a sheltie rounding on a sheep would be poetry, they are so elegant!
