New Puppy and Many Problems

Thanks for the tips. I hope that while Fox grows, Milo will start to teach him who is boss.

Any how, this is a video a took today of theyr "Rough play". The only thing to add to the video that i could not get filmed was that when ever i throw Milo a ball, as soon as he comes back to me, Fox is waiting for him and start running towards him, biting him if he can.

Well, here is a video to show what is going on.

Milo and Fox "playing"

Some Observations:
- At first, Milo just ran away from the pup. Now he actualy opens his mouth at him.

Would this be that Milo is begining to "try" to show Fox who is boss? As soon as this continues, and Fox gets older, Milo will growl or bark at him so he stops and shows some respect?

Or will this scenario just worsen over time?

Thanks Guys :D

I see nothing wrong or abnormal about that video. Both are seeking out each other, both are doing play bows. That bumping going on is quite normal play technique.

I don't see anything wrong to be honest. Your older dog,I'm sure in time will let the pup know if he has pushed the limits by either a growl,or even a gentle wake up snip. Believe me,they will learn if limits have been crossed.

I don't think you have a dominant puppy.Nor does he look as though he is going to be agressive. He simply is being a puppy. And all thry know at this age is play, eat, poop.

I have two half brothers here,at 4 months differance in age. Jasper will try to keep up with his brother when they run & play outside, and has sucessfully managed to pull out clumps of Trapp's coat.

I put the kabosh to that really quickly, but not letting them out at the same time, and also being diligent about a stern "NO" when Jasper would get ahold of Trapp. And I would remove Jasper from the equation.

He quickly learned that unless he played nice, outside times he would be by himself. Months later Trapp's bald spot grew back in. I have not had any other issues.

You need to get feeding issues under control now. While that pup is still young enough to know his bowl is his,and the other food bowl is off limits.Even if it means feeding in his crate.

I don't seperate mine now, they eat within a foot or so from one another, even Mia has learned not to wander. (blind & deaf)

All eat at differant speeds here, but everyone knows to exit the room,Even if it means they have to walk past another bowl, they just don't bother.

Lastly..a tired puppy is a happy puppy. He is active, but normal. Engage him in some short training. Not sure how much he will retain,as he is a really young pup,but it would not hurt him for sure. Stimulating that brain of his, will also make him think, and make him tired.

Leash training can start anytime. Actually when you first brought him home,he should have been introduced to it.

Is this posible at 8 weeks of age? Start "leash" training for him to go potty?

I haven't read all the posts yet, but when I saw the idea of taking him out on a leash...I wanted to make sure and add NOT to attach a leash to his regular collar ;-).. Use a harness at this age. Sheltie's are notorious for slipping their collars..

CUTE puppy by the way, and I loved watching them play. Looks like they're gonna be great friends!

I see nothing wrong with that fun play. My Maggie had way less of tail when Zak was a puppy,,,,even now at 2 yeaers old he loves to grab her tail. I love watching an older one play with a puppy. Funny how Shelties like to mouth so much when they play. Really cute puppy.

Puppy Play!

yep -that behaviour would be normal in this house anyways, especially since Jack began to be socialized & a welcome member of the pack. You should be happy -much better than Jack the first 3 months we had him -terrified of everything -ran away yelping when the other three dogs tried to get to know him, etc..bit me when I tried to pick him up. Now he's ok -still learning -it's a process -worth evey second though!

beautiful pups.

Well,

Thanks all of you for the wonderfull replies.

I´m just going to let them be happy and play. They are basically all day mouthing each other and chasing eachother.

Fox keeps on eating Milo´s food.. so what i do i feed Fox first and if Milo has some food on his bowl, i just lift it up and keep it off limits and feed Milo a bit later.

I am having Poop problems, but not pee problems.

I know just when he needs to pee, but Poo is really dificult.. he just goes outside, sniffs a little, looks at me and lies down... oh well.. i guess ill eventually get there.

Any how, lots of treats for pee and or poo :D

Thanks guys :D

I do feed all three separately (the younger ones in crates and older one in kitchen) and no one gets to check out any other bowls until everyone is done:yes:
