Do you know what a yeast infection on a dog smells like? Is that what you are smelling?

Have you taken the puppy to the vet since you got him?

When Sadie stayed wet for too long, I suddenly noticed that she smelled terrible. The best way I could describe it is that she smelled like a dirty sweat sock. When I noticed the rash it was a lot like you described, patchy and random. She also didn't have it in her armpits, neck area or legs. I gave her a bath, kept an eye on it and made sure she was dry and it eventually went away.

Yes, it is possible for fleas to cause a similar rash, especially if there happens to be a flea allergy, which is possible. You meantioned that some of the bumps had erupted - def. sounds like it could be an allergy.
 
How long was the plane flight?

Is it possible that there was a water bowl in the crate that got dumped and then the pup was laying in wetness for the entire time, and then really never go dried off.

Yeast smells nasty! And can irritate the skin and form a rash.

Looks like it could be a staph infection but hard to tell from the photos.
 
So there is some skin issue- could be stress, staph, new shampoo, food etc. Ok. Glad to hear that breeder is taking puppy back. Me, I probably would have tried figuring out issues and dealt with it- on the first look does not seems to be big problem.
Breeder does not raise her puppies- well, many breeders show their dogs and some breeders show dogs for others as handlers... it might take a week to be away to some show so yeah, happens that puppies left in care of other people... My friend was just dogsitting a litter over the weekend- boy, did we have fun but heck what a tough job!
I do know a "top" breeder that I would never buy a dog from in our area, not because of any health issues but from lack of socialization that person puts in the puppies.
 
No, I wouldn't be sending him back either just for that. I just had one come in with coccidia and I have 8 dogs. Several of them wound up with it and I was cleaning up diarrhea for days. No, I wasn't happy, but it wasn't grounds to send a puppy back over.
 
I think the consensus is to assume that there is not fault - yet- on the part of the breeder. Pup may have left perfectly healthly but arrived less so because of the air transport.

Can't remember if you said you were going for vet assessment, but if not you definitely should.
 
Not a vet, but.....I would take your pup to the vet, whatever it is I would call the breeder, then you have the facts from your vet. I would tell her I am letting you know just in case the rest of your litter might have the same problem. See what she says. I would never let her have the pup back.

The first thought that came to my mind also was fleas. Those areas could get infected/or are infected.

When I buy a puppy from the breeder, the first stop on the way home is the vet. If anything is wrong, its taken care of pronto. If its late, at daybreak the pup is there when the doors open. I don't blame you for being upset one bit, but I am certain a vet can take care of the situation whatever it might turn out to be.

When I brought my setters home they were pooping blood both of them. I was on the phone with the vet, up all night and at the vets at daybreak. They both had whip and hook worms. My father picked out the pups, he knew the lines. I made him call the breeder. LOL

Believe me I feel your pain, and I feel your aggravation. I was not happy. I was so upset for my pups. Just take a deep breath and take your pup to the vet. Your pup will be fine.

That looks to me liked the exact same rash my Border Collie Max would get every time he got fleas. The vet told me he was allergic to the fleas' saliva. I have always had a relatively flea-free home, so he only got them when boarded somewhere new (and never used again if that happened).

After a week on antibiotics and an oatmeal shampoo, he was MUCH better. My dogs over the years have had a lot of skin problems, but they were all minor and I would never have sent the dog back to the breeder. (Canine, Feline, or Human - you leave this family in a BOX!) But that's just my choice. Not criticizing you for yours.

I just had my one year old Finnegan to the vet for itchy rash on belly. She thinks it is allergies - not to food but more seasonal. I am to keep a journal of times when it is better/worst. She has be seeing a lot of this in the practice. Biting at feet, scratching the backs of the front legs (till the "elbow" bleeds) and small red bumps on belly that itch. She said to give him Benadryl and gave me a medicated shampoo. Also putting fish oil in food. A week has past and not much improvement. Not sure this helps with your situation but thought I would throw it out there!
