New to this forum - a great discovery! My husband & I recently adopted Cody, a 4 year old boy that was rescued from a kill-shelter, where his owner surrendered him. He had a pretty traumatic few weeks that finally ended with him at a foster home for a wonderful Sheltie rescue group. Cody is timid, sweet, and quirky. He's also heartworm positive, all of which we knew when we adopted him. We also share our home with a rescued German Shepherd/Collie mix, who was the scaredest, most skittish dog I've ever known. (she's still pretty weird, but we love her!!) Cody has lived with us for going on six weeks, and he's doing well. He warmed up quickly to my husband & I, and he seems to adore our 2 young grandsons who visit often. He is a love-sponge and quite insistent when he wants to be loved on. However, he's a very reserved little guy -- we've seen a few glimpses of him getting almost playful, but it's almost like he catches himself and stops. He refuses to willingly walk out the back door to do his 'business' -- we have to take him by the collar and lead him out. We can't figure out what that's about!
We're currently treating the HW with the "slow kill" method, and will re-test him in 6 months to see where we're at. I just know there's a playful, happy pup in there somewhere -- I hope we can coax it out of him!
