Hi I'm Sue from Canada and are the proud owner of Chase who is 10weeks old. Never had a Sheltie before or a puppy so it has been a big learning curve. Just want to be a good dog owner so glad I found this forum.

When we got him both his ears tipped over..so cute.. Then one stood up and the other one is now standing up. Is that typical? I like them bent over better. Will post pic when I learn how :smile2:
 
Hi and welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your new fur baby. I have always found that bringing a new puppy home is a fun time.

I wish I could help you with ears.....but certainly not the person to talk to...Sorry to say. There are a lot of people here on the forum that can give you help with ears.
 
welcome to the forums :biggrin2: there are ways to make the ears tip again so they stay this way. If you search on the forum "ears" or "puppy ears" bunches will come up along with guides how to do it. To post a photo, you can either become a premium member and post right to the forum or post a link to the photo and we can click on it

No expert for sure but imo, the ear tip(s) not tipping is common bond shared by Sheltie owners. Lots of good info available on the forum. I would advise you read a variety of opinions, and form your own.

I use gum. My pup's ears were irritated by "excel WHITE", though ordinary "Double Bubble" seems fine, and I've used it successfully (40) years ago. I've heard "Dentine", and 'speed sew' have been used successfully. Speed sew makes me nervous.

Once I noticed irritation; I stopped weighting, lightly cleaned tips with warm, damp cloth several times, Polysporin'd and waited for five days before resuming. I also let the breeder take a look, and listened to her input. (Dentine & speed sew)

I prefer the tipped ears but, if the new gum causes any irritation he'll be pointy. 's all good.

Oh! I daub ordinary flour on the exposed gum -- to avoid accidental sticking. If you have other critters around, gum might encourage unwanted attention, or injury.

If you want to ensure tipped ears, then its glue or taping.

Did your breeder not give you any advice on this?

There are many threads on gluing ears already. The simplest method is using Speed Sew or similar product. But also make sure that you have a glue remover, like Detachol (a bandange adhesive remover) to help fix mistakes or when the ears grow out.

I thought I would try to explain it but its so long, you'd be better off to such search the threads.
