New Sheltie owners here!

Hi everybody!

I haven't posted on forums in a really long time, so this feels new to me, so pardon any awkwardness. I just had to join when I recently added a sheltie of my own to my new family. I'm Bentley, and my boyfriend Matty and I have been together for over half a year. We finally decided that we were ready to share our love with a puppy, and we decided that a Sheltie was the perfect dog for us after a bit of research.

Okay, just a little bit of research was a lie. We knew we wanted to get our puppy from a breeder, so it took us a lot of searching, (and even more driving once we finally decided on a breeder to buy from,) but we finally welcomed Daphne the sable sheltie into our family two days ago.

She is just the sweetest bundle of love I've ever had the pleasure of encountering. Matty and I just love her, and think she's adorable, and we thought this community would be a great way to get some advice, as I'm sure we'll come to need it as new parents!

Anywho, I've attached a couple of pictures of Daphne for all of you to see.

Welcome! She is so precious! Thanks for posting the pictures so quickly too! (we love them) You will love owning a sheltie. They are just the best breed of dogs - loyal, affectionate, smart, full of personality, oh just the best!
Hope you enjoy this forum. There is lots of great people here with lots of information on just about anything shetlie related (and then some too )

Thank you so much! We're excited to be here. I can already foresee both Matty and I having tons of questions about the breed, and training, and so on, so this will be an awesome resource for us, I can sense it already.

We have puppies together!

Hello! My hubby and I just brought our little Duncan home yesterday! How old is Daphne? I love that name, it is very sweet. And unlike Frasier, you won't have to ask Daphne to get the door - she'll probably beat you there!

Those are some really cute pics. My DH doesn't want me posting pictures of him taking a nap with our furbug, but I may have to sneak one in sometime. We also have a Papillon named Pierre and three kitties (I guess the siggy gives that away, huh?).

Daphne and Duncan look a bit alike. We will definitely have to compare stories as they grow (and share solutions to Sheltie-issues). How is she at night? We are crating Duncan and he whined for an agonizing 5-7 minutes and then settled down for almost eight hours of sleep. I was very pleased. With Pierre, the crating at night only lasted about two weeks before he was allowed into the bed, but we got him at ten weeks, not eight.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. Everyone is so great here, and they have lots of great answers to all your Sheltie questions!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on bringing Daphne home. Such a pretty name for a puppy with a very sweet face.

Welcome to the forum Daphne! You are such a cutie pie! We have a 9 week old puppy as well, McKinley by name.

This forum is great, very supportive and informative.

Chris (Nattering Springs) recommended a book in one thread and we bought it. It is wonderful. "The Art of Raising a Puppy" by The Monks of New Skete. McKinely is 95% housetrained, comes when called, enjoys being handled and groomed and is becoming very well mannered.

Of course, Connie (McKinley's mom's fur-friend, a.k.a. the breeder) gets a lot of the credit too, she had him well on the way of housetraining and recall.

However, the book is a great read and states the stages of development up to 1 year.

Congrats!! What a cutie! Best of luck with her, although shelties are soo smart they do alot of the training themselves:lol:
